A combo of techniques(wild+mild+vild)

Hi everyone, I thought I’d share a new technique or rather a combo of techniques which I have used successfully 2 out of 3 times I’ve tried it.
The idea is that by combining aspects of wild, vild, and mild techniques you will (hopefully) end up having one of those 3 work. This is my personal version feel free to tweak it, or use it as is. Hope my explanation is clear enough.

  1. Lay in a comfortable position in bed and try not to move from it.
  2. Notice your breathing, and count up 1 number for each inhale and exhale. (i.e. inhale (1), exhale (2), inhale (3).
  3. At the same time as step 2 imagine yourself walking up a set of stairs, 1 step for each number counted.
  4. Depending on how tired you are pick a maximum number that you will count to. (I tend to choose 100, though sometimes this is too much, so 40 or 50 may be better so you can get through the whole technique at least once.)
  5. Every 20 numbers or so imagine stopping and standing on the stair you are on. Repeat a mantra to yourself such as “I will remember I am dreaming, I will look for dream signs.” You could also throw in a goal you’d like to accomplish in your dream. (i.e find James, or try flying.)
  6. When you get to your maximum number imagine yourself taking that last step up and arriving at (at least in my version) an apartment. (keep it the same place every time you do this technique.)
  7. As you take a few steps to get to the door repeat your mantra from earlier. (Also keep focusing on your breath to keep the rhythm going so to speak.)
  8. Now knock on the door, try to imagine all of this very vividly.
  9. Repeat your mantra again.
  10. (I realize this is illogical seeing as we’ve knocked on the door, but bear with me)
    Reach for the doorknob and open the door. Imagine the feeling of the doorknob.
  11. Step inside, imagine how the change in temperature feels. Do a quick reality check. (this would probably work great if you did reality checks in real life as well when going through doors)
  12. (this is my more personal bit, you may want to change it to better suit you) Imagine someone you know and love, or a dream character you’ve developed, etc standing inside. Look at them, acknowledging their presence, feeling happy that they are there, but don’t get too excited.
  13. Give them a warm, caring hug.
  14. Depending on your maximum number from earlier and how tired you are feeling etc, pick a number to go back to and repeat from step 2. Personally I tend to pick something around 80 or 60.

After repeating this cycle at least a few times(that’s what it took me the first time I tried it) you should hopefully start noticing signs of a WILD. If you do, proceed as you would normally with a wild. (I try to wait a bit and then “zoom in” on any scenes I’m seeing)

The hope is that if you don’t get a wild you will get a vild, where you’ll catch yourself dreaming at some point in the vild part of the technique.
If that doesn’t work you can hope that the repeated mantra will let you at least notice you are dreaming at some point in the dream.

Well, this is more WILD than anything, but it does leave MILD and VILD as pretty viable back-ups. I have actually heard of something really similar with the stairs, but the pauses for MILD sound interesting. The only thing I’m not certain on is the part with the room. I see a lot of openings for you to simply fade away into a dream. Hopefully it would switch over to an RCILD, but it doesn’t seem as certain as an actual WILD/MILD combo.
