So, I’m rambling through wikipedia today when I find an article on muscle contraction. I read something pretty interesting in it:
Well, since some people here claim that they can master their mind, do you think it’s possible to bypass golgi tendon organs and renshaw cells and use that much of your muscle, just be willing it? Granted, your arm or whatever will be torn apart, but, think it’s possible?
It would take a lot of practice and a lot of concenration. But it can happen, even without trying. Things such as fear being able to trigger it. Ever heard of a grandma lifting a car of her grand child? Its happend.
If you were going to do such a thing on a regular basis, then wouldnt it be wise to strengthen your tendons? Does anyone know of any ways of doing this, such as minerals that can be found in tendons which you might need more of, or excercises, perhaps ones that they prescribe for people who have injured their tendons?
Then ill worry about how to persuade my muscles to contract more than 30%… say 50%
Well one way to do this is through the use of adrenalin. I heard a story once about a guy whos adrenal gland was malfunctioning and producing large ammounts of adrenalin. He has seemingly superhuman strength, and often would show off to people that he could lift very heavy objects. But he eventually started damaging his mussels and had to undergo an operation to remove his adrenal gland. Another way would be by electrocution. That causes mussel contractions, but remember that the difference between voltage here would be like 120 V in a socket to 0.whatever V in a mussel, so I wouldn’t reccomend it.
yes i heard of many stories like that.
aparrently adreniline can help a lot in these situations
for instance…if a car fell on your gf (i dont care if you dont have one im trying to make a friggin point )
in quit a lot of cases if other person actually tries to lift the car…they can (not many people even try)
but if its just some random guy you dont know (some random guy…geddit HA! )you wont be able to…otherwise evertime theres an accident everyone on the street would be superhero’s for a few mins lol
i also think its possible to teach yourself how to use all your muscle strength
cool. i raed only yday (funnily enough) about how electrocution causes the muscle to fire at 100% or near enough (we have 240V in UK for you info…) People have been known to standing jump 12 metres (the world record being 3m71) because of this. They damage their muscles a lot though.
An incraese from about 30% to about 40% should give a huge increase in performance, and shouldnt damage the muscles or tendons, especially if they are enhanced.
Tendons are composed mainly of water, type-I collagen and cells called tenocytes. Minor fibrillar collagens, fibril-associated collagens and proteoglycans are present in small quantities and are critical for tendon structure. Most of the strength of tendon is due to the vertical, hierarchical arrangement of densely-packed collagen fibrils. Tenocytes are specialized fibroblasts responsible for the maintenance of collagen structure.
Actually, I do this to some degree very often at the gym, I lift the weights on 100KG which is max after some of my friends has been there and training at 50KG, and take it like 10 times, and what I do is psyche myself up. I get somewhat ‘mad’ at the weights and just know that when I’m gonna lift them its gonna be easy, and I do it very fast also so that I can’t really feel how hard it is. If I where to do this in a ‘normal’ state, i would not make it… And note that 100KG at some of the machines is pretty much since it’s max too I believe this is possible to do even with 200KG or more. The only thing you need to do is get “mad” and say clearly in your head that this is going to be easy.
yes thats half the answer, thankyou. I asked a biology teacher at my school today a similar question and the answer was basically “collagen” which doesnt mean much to me, and “protein”, which does. However by eating more protein you are more likely to help your muscles than your tendons. While that is a good thing it doesnt answer the second part of my question, which is how do you strengthen tendons?
collagen was some sort of plastic-y stuff right?
and i have no idea how you strengthen your tendons but not specifically your muscles, i’ll ask around(btw, isn’t it the hollidays now?)
It sounds feasible. Through meditation and other mental exercises, some people have developed the ability to consciously control several of their vital organs, which are typically left to your subconscious. This includes directly influencing their heart-rate, stopping their pulse, shutting off pain receptors, and so on. With enough discipline, you could probably override whatever subconscious mechanism was in place to prevent you from overexerting your muscles–if you’d ever want to do that.
Certain chemicals already allow people to make use of this “dormant” strength, such as adrenaline. Other, non-natural substances such as Phencyclidine (PCP) can reportedly give people extra strength by blocking their pain receptors, causing their mind to ignore the fact that they’re overexerting and damaging themselves, so it never applies the “safety” controls to stop them.
