Supposedly affirmations in the third person are more efective than the first person. The being that usually when affirmations are said in the first person, the is a part of your brain (concious or unconcious) that rejects this false information and cancels out the effects of the affirmation.
So saying ‘I am smart’ will immediately be met with a ‘No you’re not’ from somewhere in your mind, unless you already believe you’re smart. Your personally veiw of yourself either hinder or enhances the effect of first person affirmations…but since most ppl have some sort of self esteem issuses, first person is generally less effective
On the other hand, third person affirmatrions are a way of gettin around the ‘negative chatter’. Saying " (your name here) is smart" or “You are smart” create the illusion that you are talkin to someone else and not yourself, however, conciously you know that the person your talking about is you.
The other reason this might be effective is the fact that most of our opinions about ourselves came from what someone said to use when we were young and impresionable. try it right now, think of an affirmation, then say it in the first person…then say it again in the third person…doesnt it feel diff? If it doesnt then i guess u grew up in a box.
But yea, i came across this recently. I made a cd and recorded myself sayin affirmations in the third person…i was told to listen to it 20 mins a day for the next couple of weeks (supposed to see results after one). I made 3 tracks, each with a diferent set of affirmations, and i listen to them fo bout 30-40 each…try it out and tell me if it work for you, peace.
