I have frequently had dreams in which I feel some kind of force pulling me out of my body, but my fear and apprehensiveness pulls me back. It’s like some outside force is pulling me out, while I hold myself back due to my fear of disconnecting. Has anyone experienced a similar fear? If so, how do you deal with it so that you can have great OBE dreams? I would like to allow myself to be taken by this “force,” but a part of me is afraid that I won’t be able to come back into my body o_O.
There’s something called a hypnic jerk that a lot of people experience, when they catch themselves falling asleep and they feel like they’re, literally, falling– as in I feel like if I don’t catch myself then I’m going to hit the ground and it’s going to hurt. It makes no sense because I know that I’m lying down, but it’s instinct. I just let it keep happening until I get bored of reacting that way and start remembering that it’s just a nervous glitch.
If you actually believe in such things, I assure you an OBE is like building a house of cards. Flatmate down the hall turns on an electric fan, making a light draft come up from under your door? Back into the body you go!
Getting hungry? Back into the body, even if you’re just going to be sleeping more instead of getting up to eat something. Gotta pee in 30 minutes? Yoink, body wants to make super sure that you’re here for that.
Of course, if it turns out that some people can get out more easily than they can find their way back, they wouldn’t be in any position to warn us, isn’t that right?
OBE scares me too, don’t worry
I still can’t get the difference between OBE and LD… some people say it’s the same and some people say it’s very different and if you experience it, you will know…
Personally I’m skeptic about LDs…
LD’s I can say for a fact a real as many people including myself do experience them. As for OBE… it really just depends on the persons view. I personally think they are just very vivid dreams that you fly out of your body, others think it is actually happening and others still think you go to another plane (AP). Really it boils down to your spiritual beliefs/world view for that. They do happen, it’s just debated as to what they actually are.
Very good post. But no matter what they actually are, they are awesome I’ve had one “classic OBE” involving buzzing, vibrations, and hovering out of the body. No fear at all.
I think they are something more than just a dream, but that doesn’t mean it have to be outside the body. I have had very vivid lucid dreams, but my OBE was nothing like them. I was only out of my body for 5 seconds and the vision was very poor. But the feelings were something unique I had never experienced before. Vivid to me usually means that the vision is good.
The difference between LD/OBE/AP is very unclear for me too. But one thing that’s for sure is that it isn’t black and white, but shades of gray. I have heard from several explorers that you can jump between them and that they are hard to distinguish.
I’ve had strange, chronical nightmares either right after or during sleep paralysis… from where an OBE is meant to start. Maybe this corresponds to your fear / is the same thing?
