Well, the other night I was bored…I stumbled across this site, and I started looking at the guide of how to LD. This was friday night. Last night (saturday), I came into my room and was pretty sleepy. I turned out the light, and proceeded to fall asleep. One thing I remember before my dream started was that I saw vague colors and patterns before I fell asleep, which might have been me being aware of the state before you fall asleep (starts with an H). I had been doing RC’s lately; I ask myself if I’m dreaming, look at my hands, turn away, and look back at them. My dream started like any other dream; I was at my house, but it didn’t exactly seem normal. Things were out of place. I did an RC in my dream, and when I turned back to look at my hands I had 6 fingers on one of them, and the other was missing like 4. At that point, I think I realized I was dreaming! I proceeded to jump off part of my house, and I started to fly! This didn’t last, however, and I wasn’t able to fly near the end of my dream. I also was able to teleport across my lawn.
This seems like an LD, correct? It was awesome! If anyone has any feedback or ideas on how I can become lucid again, let me know. On a sidenote, maybe nicotine helped, since I had a few cigarettes before I went to sleep.
Congratulations on your first LD!
Yes, it was a LD, a Lucid Dream is a dream in which you are aware of the fact you are dreaming.
Dont worry about not having perfect control, it will come with time and practice.
About how to have them…
Just like you did!
If that worked for you, keep doing it.
Before you go to sleep, you may want to look at your hands and focus on the fact youll be looking at them when in the dream.
Oh, and one last thing, from my own experience, I highly doubt nicotine has any effect on your dreams, and if it has, I would suggest it would be negative.
Wow!
I cant beleive you had one right away… how lucky! I envy you
I suggest you look at a list of techniques on how to induce LDs, you can find one in the LD4all knowledge base.
And to make LDs last longer when you feel like their fading, try rubbing your hands, or focusing on a certain object in your dream. Or spinning helps!
The shapes you say you saw? Hypnagogic Imagery (HI)
And thats the begining of a WILD! (wake-initiated-lucid-dream)
Where you are awake whilst your body ebters a dream! Which, is how it sounds…pretty cool
You seem a natural, so probably wont have much problem getting lucid again!
I agree with relV, staring at your hands for 10 minutes repeating when you see them you are dreaming before going to sleep will help a tremendous amount. It helps me get lucid
Also carry on with your RCs! Its a good habit to stick with. And of course you could stick with the one your doing now, or add some others aswell! One that works with everyone i know who does it is breathing through a plugged nose. Plug your nose with your fingers and attempt to breathe through. If you can breathe through, your dreaming!
Also, it kinda feels pretty cool…
Ah, and before i forget…keep a dream journal. either one you keep in a notepad by the side of your bed, or one you keep on here, each are great. And you should write down all the details of your first LD, so you can go and re-read it when you need motivation … or just to reminisce.
And congrats on the LD!
Geez… sorry for the long post
PM me for anything you need help with, ill be happy to help!
thanks guys! It’s weird, I thought it would be much harder to have one then it was…I really wasn’t trying to have one though, I just got into bed and went to sleep. Just goes to show you that it DOES make it easier if you aren’t trying too hard. I doubt I’ll have another one anytime soon, I’ll probably try too hard. It was a very vivid dream, and I was definitely aware that I was dreaming…hell, I remember trying to teleport to NYC by spinning around and closing my eyes, but I couldn’t do that right away…
Youll be able to control it better and better as time goes… Dont worry about it…
And dont worry about not having another one or trying too hard.
Take it easy, relax before you go to bed, think about the LD youre going to have and how fun its going to be and enjoy it!
mcogan10: I think the reason you had an LD without any technique was you reading up about it all day? Whenever i extensively read things on here related with LDing i have dreams either about it, or an actual LD. Id carry on as you are, try out all the different techniques and pick the one that works best with you
Then the LDs will no doubt start to flow in thick and fast!
Hey, I haven’t been on in awhile but wanted to update my thread!
The other day I came back to my dorm room after a particularly brutal day at school, and proceeded to attempt a half hour nap before I had to get up again. I wasn’t conciously trying to have an LD, but I felt awake while I was falling asleep. There were many patterns, and I knew that I was in the state before sleep. Suddenly, I saw some kind of aztec temple with a glowing computer monitor inside. I “zoomed in” on the screen and seemed to fall through at a VERY high rate of speed. I felt like I just kept falling and falling into a purplish black abyss. It was SCARY! I tried to wake myself up, which kind of worked; I was legit PARALYZED! It was just like I read about! I couldn’t move my arms or legs, but knew what was happening to me so it was just really cool. I woke up fully within the next ten seconds, and felt completely stoked about what just happened to me. This was a couple weeks ago, and haven’t been able to have an LD or anything like that since…I think I’ve been trying to hard to have one after that total mindfuck of an experience. Just thought I’d share!
