Any advice for a noob trying to WILD

I’ve only had one Lucid dream, it was awesome, but by accident. I was playing spore and i realized that it wasnt released yet, then i realized i was dreaming. after that i started putting volcanoes on the moon, pretty fun. But that was a while ago, and i want to have another.

I’ve been trying WILDing every night for at least a week now, and have not gotten so far as the “vibrational” phase or the phase when your body goes into sleep paralysis. Every night i relax, count, and say “i am dreaming” over and over, but nothing, does anyone have any in depth suggestions?

You could look in the The First Steps to WILD (for all basic WILD related Q&A) Topic in this forum. It has a lot of info. about WILD.
You also don’t give much info. about exactly what you are doing, and where you are having problems.
From what you say, I think you might be doing WILD when you first go to bed at night. That makes WILD very difficult if not imposable. Most people have to go through a deep sleep cycle before they can get into REM, or dream sleep. The first deep sleep cycle at night is normally about 80 mins. long. When you try WILD then, you will probably just fall asleep. That is why it is better to use WBTB with WILD. That way you can get through the long deep sleep cycles to a time when you have very long REM cycles, and very short deep sleep cycles.
You could also try WILD with a nap in the early afternoon.

Disclaimer: I know that WILD works for some people when going to bed at night, and that some people do dream in deep sleep. That is not the norm, and most people will have much better success using the above techs.

Waow, very good summary, thank you.
Lol, I was wondering too why WILD didn’t work when I go to bed. Now, I understand. Thanks.

Okay ill try that then. i guess i’ll set an alarm or something like that.

just to make sure my technique isnt flawed, ill list what itry to do at night.
i lay down in bed, relax, i tense a muscle breath in, out, and then relax. after that i close my eyes and focus on my counting and breathing. i try to repeat to myself, i am dreaming i am dreaming… and so on. i remember at least getting up to 300 in the counting cycles, i can’t remember much else, i must have drifted off to sleep.

Your technique doesn’t sound flawed as far as it goes. I would guess that the problem is that counting and focusing on your breathing is not enough to keep your mind awake. You may need to add something to that. You could try focusing more on HH if you get any of that, or trying one of the other WILD type of techniques like VILD or FILD. Most of the other WILD type of techniques add something to the basic “keep you mind awake while your body goes to sleep” of WILD that can help in keeping your mind awake.
At this stage the most important thing is maintaining the balance between awake mind and sleeping body. If you find that you are falling asleep without keeping your mind awake, then add something that keeps your mind awake. If you can’t get to sleep, then remove something that keeps you awake. You just have to find what works for you. :look:
Unfortunately it is just a question of luck, and work, how fast you find out what works for you. Some people find it on their first try, others give up after years of looking.
Good luck and hope that you have an LD soon.
