Oh yeah, I forgot to ask for all of those from London congratulations. I was in New York when they made the anouncement and man were there a lot of angry outbursts. I didn’t really care, its not like I would be able to afford watching it. But even more so than New York, Paris was furious! I heard on the radio some people were turning to conspiracy theories to explain the loss. I guess there is always next time.
Wait, what’s going on with the Olympics?
Yesterday it was decided that the 2012 Olympics will be held in London.
i was sort of hoping it would have been new york just because i know they would go all out for it… i cannot wait to see what london does however, so i guess i am disapointed and excited at the same time! heh
I’m glad it was London - after all, the US has hosted two recent Olympic Games - Atlanta and Salt Lake City (winter). I don’t think Britian’s had a turn for a while. Nor France, either.
I would have likes it when the Olypics would go to Madrid. I like Spain kindof, they are very culture concious I believe. It would have been something different I think. It’s not that I don’t like London, no, I love English and everything that has to do with it… But out here, The Netherlands, we see so much of Great Britain already, I just wanted to see something new… But hey, who am I right?!
I don’t watch the olympics, so I really could care less where it’s held. Sounds pretty immature for people to be mad about where it’s being held.
I’m French but I’m not of Paris. There is perhaps something special in France, due to historical and geographical reasons (I don’t know if it the same in others countries): provincials don’t really like the people of the capital a lot and vice versa. Thus we have had a big laugh when Paris was not choosen for the 2012 Olympics.
I know, it was stupid and not very kind, but it was due to the incredible propaganda which has been made for months about these Olympics. I never remember to have seen something like that on the TV. The day of the vote, instead of just saying the results of it, all the chains were broadcasting the same program during one hour. And in Paris, though people could see the result on their TV, they had put giant screens on plazas so that they made a crowd effect. And of course, when the result was given, people were crying in the streets. In my eyes, it’s absolutely unbelievable.
I’m more and more afraid by the raising of nationalisms and integrism and fanatisms and by the increasing demagogy of our politicians, stupidly playing with them in order to seek popularity, all around the world. People on this board are generally very young, so they cannot compare previous Olympics with this one. Olympics have always been a political stake, but IMO nothing can be compared with that, apart from Berlin 1936 (though I’m not so old to have seen them ). For instance, just a few years ago, it would have been unimaginable that terrorists would attack the town in which Olympics will be held, and it would have been unimaginable that people would cry because they don’t have the Olympics, and it would have been unimaginable that they were turning to conspiracy theories to explain the loss.
But now, it’s possible. Times are changing, and not for the best.
I’m glad USA didn’t get it. They get way to much attention as it already is.
