Anyone know how to get a cat out of a tree?

If you love your cat, then i think you should do everything instead of just watching… How long has it been now? 4 days without water and food? :X

You should try calling both police, fire department and any other kind of animal organisations…

I dont understand how anyone can watch their cat like this for 4 whole days, without doing anything but watch…

Well if it was him up the tree it’s not like his cat would help him get down. I say let it summon up the courage to come down on its own. It’ll be like a rites of passage, a spiritual test for it to rise up to… or something.

when my cats was stuck up a tree (30 feet or so) my day and neibours and uncles all came round and set up a ladder and then took a ladder up with them and set it up on some branches and when that wasnt enough the took another ladder and put it up that the cat eventually jumped down before my dad got up there what a wate of three ladders

Dark Matter, that reminds me. My cat likes to jump up onto the roof of my dad’s truck when he gets home. Maybe he could drive up to the tree… but then again, if she jumped onto that, it may hurt worse than landing on grass and pine straw.

And tomas, I understand what you’re saying. Problem is, we’ve tried a lot of things, nothing works. Our ladders won’t reach even the lowest branch, and she’s afraid of other people who try to help her. A guy in a bucket ladder (cherry picker?) tried to get her out, but she freaked out and climbed higher.

She’s doing okay right now, though. She’s still on the second to lowest branch, and she’s sleeping right now.

We know she can get down herself–cats have been going up and down trees for centuries, I assume, and she’s been up trees at least two times before.

Wow, Newb… do ya think maybe she waited until they went to all that trouble to jump? Kinda makes you wonder if cats are smarter than we think they are!

Make sure you let us know how your kitty does.

My dad brought a taller ladder, but it still won’t reach, and she won’t come to him.

On the bright side, since it started raining a day or two ago, she’s been feeling a lot better, what with the abundance of water. It’s funny, she doesn’t even seem scared anymore. She’ll meow a little if we talk to her, but most of the time she’s either sleeping or walking back and forth.

I’m gonna try and convince my dad to spray her with the water hose, if it will reach. He had to do that the last time. The trouble with that is that the hose doesn’t shoot high enough. Maybe if he’s standing on the ladder, he can hit her and get her down.

I’ll keep you guys updated. Thanks for all the help!

maybe then can rent an air compressor that you can attach a hose to. Like the pressure washer things. That ought to shoot further than a regular hose.

Ooh, good idea. I think my dad might have one of those.

Just hope it’s not too powerful.

It might be but you just want to scare her down not hit her with it. That blast of water might hurt her or send her running back up higher.

Oops, didn’t mean to do that.

Talked to my dad. He explained that they still won’t spray high enough.

On another note, my dad tried to knock her off balance earlier with a football, but she got scared and climbed higher again. I assume she’s at least 50 feet up.

To give you all a good picture of what’s going on, I’ll describe the tree. It’s an oak (I think), pretty thick and sturdy. The lowest branch is probably 20-25 feet up. After that, there are branches placed about 2-5 feet apart, going up for who knows how high.

I think now the only way she’s going to get down is if she gets down herself.

Why not get some wood and nails and make steps in the tree trunk, getting wider the futher down the tree.

you don’t need them all the way to the bottom of course the cat will likely jump 8foot without a second thought.

I’ve thought of that… except I was thinking about nailing steps going up the tree until I reach the first branch, so I can climb up. Is that what you were saying?

This ide is pretty good, but it’d be pretty difficult, as well as dangerous. It’s a long way to the first branch–30 feet, I’d judge–which means I’d have to nail each step individually, going down every time I need to get another piece of wood, and then going back up and nailing it. This calls for many trips, and it’d be pretty easy to fall from such a height. Plus, I’m not sure my parents would let me do that. They’d be afraid I would fall or something.

I’ll look into it, though, and see if I can get the OK from the parents. In the meantime, I have confidence she can at least get down to the bottom branch, as she did a few days ago. If she gets down there, we can get her down somehow.

It’s raining now, so she’s getting some water, which is good. And although we can’t reach her with food, I know there are some bugs and treefrogs up there, so she’s getting food, even if it’s just a little. I’m surprised she’s as lively as she is after being up in a tree for five or six days. It’s weird, she’s walking around, jumps up onto branches. She’s got plenty of energy.

Once again, I’ll keep everyone updated. Thanks again!

so I can climb up. Is that what you were saying?

Not for you, for the cat to come down. Just make the sturdy and wide so the cat can jump on them. Upto 8foot gap betweet each - rotate them slightly so they aren’t directly under each other.

The only problem is teh gap between the top of your ladder where the last step would go and the branch. But anything closer will be more enticing for the cat than the ground.

Maybe the bucket ladder thingy could be used to make a few higher steps (it would also be safer than the regular ladder)

Just remember to remove them afterwards so noone tries to climb up the tree if you do attempt it.

that sounds kinda …hard but it’s possible

i would say try and get a rope around a limb and have sombody pull you up but then there is the case of the rope breaking, sombody letting go or the limb breaking so that would be out of the question… would be nice if there were other trees near by it so you could climb up them and get to it :bored: I know one of my friends IRl had the same problem but the fire department brought out a fire truck with a huge ladder and got it down… free of charge to guess he was just lucky.

Good luck with the cat hope it all goes well

Thanks… she came down two limbs since yesterday, and she’s just chilling sitting around right now. I have a feeling she’ll come down when she’s ready. Although I have no idea when that’ll be.

i have an idea
get a basket or something that your cat can fit in and get some rope and some tuna
tie a ball or something to the rope then throw it over the branch and let it come down to you so you are holding both ends of the rope but the middle is on the branch of the tree
now untie the ball and tie the basket to it and put some tuna in the basket then pull the other end of the rope so the basket goes up and then hopefully the smell of the tuna will make your cat go and get in the basket then you can let the basket slowly down

Kashmir1342 I took a nap today and had a dream where I saw this cat on a branch. It didn’t look like it was in bad shape. (I’m not claiming this is precog) Anyhow, someone shot a blast of water at the cat between the cat and the tree. This way the cat wouldn’t have a chance to climb up from the blast. The cat got scared and fell. It fell into some bushes and ran towards a backyard and it looked so relieved.

Well, I’m sending good wishes for your kitty.

Thanks, Iluminada. Maybe it is precog… I hope so, anyway.

And karl, that could work, but I don’t have a rope long enough. She’s over 30 feet high.

She’s still in the same place she was yesterday. She hasn’t seemed to make an effort to come lower. If she can get low enough (maybe if she comes down two branches) we might can hit her with the water hose.

She’s an outside cat, so she’s used to hunting for food (even though we give her food). My mom sometimes opens the door to find Cinammon (that’s the cat’s name) holding a dead bird in her mouth. Cinammon’s gone missing a few times, and I’m sure she found food somewhere to live on. She’s doing okay right now, lying down, as usual. I’ll keep you guys updated as things change.

Thanks again!

Okay, she’s still on the third branch from the bottom, but she’s really trying to find a way down. I was able to guide her for a bit, and she almost jumped to a lower branch, but fear got the best of her, I suppose.

I think if she had to, she could live for quite a while up there. She’s got a good supply of food (bugs, frogs, and possibly birds/bird eggs). Again, it’s not the best conditions, and certainly not what I want for her, but it’s enough to get by on until she can get lower.

That kitty of yours is sure stubborn. But then again, they almost all are. Mine runs away everytime she sees me with a camera.

What’s your kitty’s name?
