I just saw “The village” allthough it wasnt as scary as “Signs” or “Sixth sence” I still liked it. “Signs” is my favorite movie from him. It was pretty freaky.
I liked the Sixth Sense, and thought Signs was crap. My freinds went out to see The Village in the cinema, only to come back and report it was terrible. As I like pretty much the same things as them, I’ll go ahead and say it’s terrible .
Unbreakable and The Village are both great, but not as great as The Sixth Sense Haven’t seen Signs yet.
I recently saw The Village and its end turned it very good movie IMO. Unfortunately until now i was fooled by totally crap movie Fifth Element, and as i forgot it’s title i thought that it was Sixth Sense. Until now when i looked at the movie introduction
I certainly want to check it out soon. And probably Signs too.
I’ve liked all of his movies. With “Signs”, I liked it up until the point that they showed the alien. Other than that, I’ve enjoyed his movies, especially The Village.
I liked “Sixth Sense” and “Signs” very much. I thought “Unbreakable” was a horrible mistake. “The Village” was okay, but kind of disappointing.
Umm…what did you disliked in the movie?
I found it pretty good, though. I like serious dramas, and this was not easy story, but melancholic. The end was nice surprise also. Compared to vast majority of crap in movie industry, it was above mediocrity IMO.
i liked all of them so far especially unbreakable because it was sorta comic book based and stuff. also signs because well it has aliens.and umm village wasnt very good dissapointing in horror but a mediocre love story
I thought that signs was a really stupid and awful movie… The village was a bit better in my opinion, but still not very good at all… Sixth sense was the only movie from him that i thought was ok. None of them was any scary at all…
You can say anything you want about M. Night Shyamalan, but you should at least recognize this one fact that seems to set him apart from the majority of other film makers: his ideas are imaginative and original. How many great twist endings were there before he came along? Who knew how to throw a wrench in the works and make you question everything you thought you once knew about his characters and story line? Like his movies or hate his movies, I think it’s unfair to say that he’s anything but talented. I do believe he also writes as well as produces all his films (and he makes an appearance in each one, too).
I really can’t understand how anybody can hate his movies. So, for all those people who think they sucked or did nothing for them (and also failed to scare them), do you care to elaborate on this? I’d like to know why some people absolutely love his stuff while others hate it. What is it lacking? Is it just the fact that his aliens weren’t as “cool-looking” as you were hoping for, or that there weren’t enough ghosts to scare the crap out of you? Did his signature “twist endings” fall short of the mark and fail to hold water? I’m interested. I don’t care for just hearing that, “The Village sucked and I didn’t like Signs”, etc. WHY didn’t you like these films? That’s what I’m after.
It’s clear that I’m a Shyamalan fan, and I think I’ll stay that way. His movies never just entertain me-–they also make me think about what I’ve just seen. I’ve never walked away from one of his films without feeling a sense of appreciation for his art of storytelling and his uncanny knack for throwing in humor in some of the gloomiest situations. I haven’t loved all of his films, but I’ve definitely had appreciation for them all. I think what Shyamalan does is above and beyond and I just hate to see his stuff bashed without sufficient enough reason.
Maybe because they just did not entertain me. I dont like watching movies that make me feel bored. You have to respect that people have a completly different taste when it comes to movies.
Me not liking the signs has nothing to do with how “cool” the aliens looked or anything… I just felt that nothing interesting happened and that the main caracthers acted unusually stupid to the whole situation. I cant really go into details, cause i honestly dont remember whole movies unless i enjoy them.
Sixth sense on the other hand was a great movie in my opinion.
well i didnt liek the village because the way it was hyped up to eb i mean for aluv story it was great.
I do, yes. That’s why I went to the trouble to ask those people who didn’t like his films WHY they didn’t like his films. I myself can’t understand why people dislike them, so I wanted the people to shed some light on this, simply so I could get a better understanding of other peoples’ opinions. It was an exercise in curiosity, mainly. I’m not so naive as to think, “Wow, since I loved this movie, the rest of mankind must love this movie also.” I just wanted some reasons for people saying that these movies mean nothing to them. Thanks for responding.
I definitely see your point and it’s a shame that the endless trailers and advertising goes out if its way to fool people into thinking it’s something it’s not. Though I would say The Village was much more than just a love story.
Try watching Hitchcock… anything from the Twighlight Zone (orginal series)… just to name a couple. Shyamalan quotes a few old movies (including Hitchcock) as his influences.
I gotta admit there is ALOT of crap movies that are coming out these days… so it is best to look to the past for inspiration.
Shyamalan’s movies are OK - they are entertaining enough.
Different strokes for different folks!
I agree about Hitchcock, el sortilego, and it makes sense that his work has had an influence on Shyamalan. There’s no doubt that there are quite a few talented film makers from old that have set the stage for what we see today. *I also love the fact that Hitchcock saw actors more as puppets and didn’t regard them as amazing entertainers. I think the world would be a bit better if people didn’t think quite so highly of “stars” and actors in general.
That Hitchcock was quite a character! I don’t think he held much esteem for actors/resses.
Put them in their place I say!
Every time i saw one of him films, I would leave the theater in a state of allmost being overwhelmed with emotion. Signs was brilliant, the way he first showed the alian was so cool, and it was realistic, of what would happen if aliens did come to earth.
dunno if this was brought up (didnt feel like reading all that ), but on Signs, it shows one of M. Night Shymalan’s movies from his childhood. and it is horrible as hell. but its hilarious because the “Bad guy” is a robot with a mask on it, and it goes very slowly. its worth watching
Yeah, I saw that little snippet of a home-movie he put together when he was younger. I don’t know. It wasn’t great, but it was funny, and I liked how Shyamalan made sure to point out how he screamed like a girl. Hehe.
