Best dream techniques that don't involve SP/Old Hag/etc?

Sorry, I can’t stand those. I’d like to learn about ones that don’t touch the whole SP thing. Thanks.

Just avoid using WILD, That can cause any of those things. I have experienced SP from it and others have experienced Old Hag. I’ve never heard of people getting those things from MILD so that’s what I’d look into if I were you.

SP happens every night during REM sleep, if it didn’t you would be acting out of the dream(?). Anyway, conscious SP and Old Hag phenomena happen when one tries to induce a lucid dream through a WILD. The techniques I can think of which use WILD are: FILD (formerly known as HILD), VILD and the ‘normal’ WILD induction method, DEILD. (If you don’t want SP or Old Hag stay away from these techniques!)

All other methods which aim for DILD, (not staying conscious during SP/smaller chance of Hypnopomic Imagery + Paralysis), should be ok for having lucid dreams. (MILD, RC’s etc.)

On a side note: Old Hag is /very/ rare and most of the forum members haven’t had any experiences with this, so I don’t think there is anything to fear from a WILD. Also, SP is a process that accurs /every/ night, you just don’t experience it consciously, unless you do a WILD.

I agree, I’ve met few members who have experienced Old Hag. And I don’t find SP frightening at all, I see it as a good thing because it means I’m closer to having an LD using WILD.

as far as stopping the old hag thing, i have no clue cuz no one is realy sure wat it is in the first place. It is pretty scary but ya just gotta not worry about it and if it happens it probably wont happen again, at least not for quite awile.

Hypnopompic imagery combined with sleep paralysis, hallucinations of a person/monster sitting on chest. Also accompanied with a feeling of a heavy burden on the chest and difficulty to breathe. See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hag

I think that Old Hag comes as part of feeling vulnerable. I had one time when I started to feel an odd heaviness (kind of like weak fear) but I just told myself this won’t happen I know it can’t hurt me and the feeling disappeared immediately.

wow, this thread has changed topic quite a bit. lol

I’ll try out some MILD/DILD then, thanks.

Old Hag is rare? I’ve experienced it, once when I was seven.

I would like to avoid concious SP at all costs, too, and I’m planning on trying a MILD/WBTB combo. I definitely don’t want to try WILD…the entire point of that one is to induce SP!

SP is one of the reasons i find WILD so attractive

I think SP could be cool too, but for some people it’s intensely disturbing or frightening-- :open_mouth: eep…
I have seen some pretty extreme examples on LD4ALL @___a

All techniques… And lucid dreaming in general includes a risk of SP.

You could just as well say that sleeping has a risk of SP, MovieMe. There is no proof saying that lucid dreaming itself increases the risk. The body is paralysed every night while we are in REM sleep, but only techniques that involves falling asleep consciously makes SP more likely.
