Big Problems with Excitement and Lucidity

Hello fellow LDers…

I think I’m pretty close to having a lucid dream, but there’s this one big problem already mentioned in the subject line.

As soon as I realize I’m dreaming I’m getting really excited, which automatically propels me into waking up.

I recently had these two cases:

The first one was that I was sitting in the cockpit of a plane which was about to crash, when I suddenly noticed that this whole situation just can’t be true and realized that I was dreaming. I was able to enjoy about 2 or 3 seconds of lucidity and looked at the horizon and the sea I was about to crash into. Then I woke up.

In the second one I was riding my bike around my hometown and rode past a giant cellphone. I thought about picking it up, but then I realized that such big cellphones don’t exist. I was really happy about being lucid and could feel me riding the bike for 2 or 3 seconds but after that it quickly faded away and I woke up.

So now I wonder why that’s happening. I’m not euphoric about becoming lucid when I’m awake so this can’t be the reason (In fact these dreams have started popping up after I stopped doing all these ‘manual’ RCs).
Maybe it’s because of the stupid coincidence that I was moving pretty fast while realizing that I’m dreaming?
I would try to stabilize my dream, but it fades just too fast.

So, my guess is that I just have to get used to the feeling of becoming lucid. But I’m not sure, am I doing anything wrong?

Part of it is going to be getting used to becoming lucid. I know my first few LD’s were quite short and faded almost the moment I became lucid. As I had more, they became easier and easier to stabilize. The biggest thing I learned was to rub my hands the moment I became lucid. I had set the intention to do it by picturing it happening whenever I thought about lucid dreaming. Eventually it just happened.

There’s also a theory that it’s easier to become lucid as you’re waking up because you conscious mind is beginning to activate anyway. Basically your logic kicks in just as the dream is beginning to fade. Again, part of it is learning to anchor the dream but the rest simply comes from experience.

Keep it up, you’ll get there :content:
