Breathing difficulties whilst dreaming

last night I had a dream, what it was about is irrelevent(it was about fish if you must know) but in the dream, i started to struggle to breathe, it kept coming and going in intervals. This dream reminded me of many others that i have had in which the same thing happened, i just kiond of ignored them.

it is worth mentioning I do have asthma, and the sypmtons are similar to an asthma attack except they onyl happen at short intervals, which makes me think it is not form an asthma attack IRL.

What do you think is the cuase of this? and could it be dangerous?
if I can’t breathe in my dream can i nto breathe IRL?

I’m pretty suer you’re breathing in dreams is directly connected to your breathing in real life - therefore if you can’t breathe in one, you can’t breathe in the other. However, no dream will let you die from lack of breathing (you’d wake up first) so it can’t harm you.

It sounds to me like what you experinced was nothing but part of the dream. I sometimes have random pains in dream that have nothing to do with real life.

dreaming bout the fish actually might cause breathing problems:)Just wait till you dream about fresh mint candy:)
As surreal said-it is most propably connected with your real life condition,i also doubt that it comes from a dream itself.

do you think it could be a syptom that I should worry about, it does happen on an almost regular occassion.

I’m not sure, but if you’re worried, you could consult a doctor about it.

Having asthma is something you should be worried about.
As if it comes to sleeping i guess that its not much of a problem if your sickness isnt too developed. But thats what your doctor should have answers for.
take care:)

Have you heard about a condition called sleep apnea? People with that get breathing difficulties several times during the night. It is usually connected with snoring and can cause people to sleep very lightly! Maybe it is worth a google search?

If sleep apnia is the cause then yes it could be very dangerous. It’s just as likely however than you are sleeping on your stumach and that you face is in your pillow thus restricting your breathing.

If it happens nightly then it’s likely more biologically related.

i had a dream once i was in a store and i was with my dad and the store lady asked if i needed medicine and i asked why and she said coz i looked like i was struggling for air and then suddenly i couldn’t breathe properly.
i woke up and i was breathing normally again.

Got domething in common eith you Philthemn,
I have asthma.
A few weeks ago, I dreamed that I was a fish, I was out of water and struggling to get to the water. I couldn’t ‘breath’.
Then I turned into a human again, yet I then put my head under water and took a deep breath, it felt good. I was able to breath under water comfortably.

Thought you’d like me to share that.

Sweet Dreams.

I also have asthma. I usually have a dream that night to warn me about asthma attack that might happen the next day if I am not careful.

It usually always associated with difficult time breathing and end up in the hospitial in my dream. Or having COPA disease… etc. Lungs disease in my dream… (yeah I always get asthma attack the next day after this dream… if I’m not careful).

So… it’s interesting. I have been able to avoid most asthma attacks cuz of my dreams. Interesting eh?

Could also be related to your sleeping position!
And maybe if you role yourself up into your blankets and breathe that way heavier while sleeping.
