Can I call it a progress?

First of all: hello to all the dreamers out there. I have been reading in this forum a while now and finally found the courage to say something myself

I am trying to practice my dream recall for 4 weeks now and it had started quite well. I could remember 3 dreams at night and all that I wrote down went longer. Yet, since a week or so, although I wrote my dreams down every night I started to have trouble with remembering my dreams and I have no idea why. At the moment my dream recall comes back but I feel like starting from the very beginning. I really want to be able to dream lucid though, i never had one before. I try it with MILD but my mind seems too stubborn lol. I don’t wanna try WILD because I don’t feel comfortable with that.

Today Happened something though and I ask you guys if i can see it as progress. I took a nap and fell into a weird dream. I remember that I went to sleep in my dream and my dad wanted to tell me goodnight. In that moment I suddenly said to myself that I am dreaming (I never came so far before) and felt my heart poundin very hard and I thought I was awake now. Yet I was not, I woke up a second after with SP and it felt uncomfortable until I moved my head. I was awake then. So… Could I call that a tiny little progress?

Hy LittleLionTamer, and welcome!

It looks like you had very low lucidity, and that feeling, when you felt your heart poundin, that happens me a lot, it’s the awesome moment when you realize that your dreaming or when you become lucid… It’s great feeling, but as a beginner you should learn how to maintain lucidity,(how to stay calm) one of the ways is rubbing your hands (I use this one), and another is a spinning technique, which I never try before…

And about DR, it’s normal to have ups and downs… One day you remember 3 or 4 dreams, another day almost nothing, and so on… But just like I said it’s completely normal…

And YES, we can call that a progress!!

Hello and thank you!! It relieves me to know that you don’t particularly need to remember every single dream at night, sadly in many tutorials I gained the feeling that exactly this is required to even become lucid. Anyhow, the moment I told myself that I am dreaming I still was lying in my bed so I forgot to spin around. And the next second, I woke up with SP! I know if I would have been standind up, I would have had a very lucid dream. But it’s great to have finally a progress!! funny thing is that I had a dream tonight in which i was talking about lucid dreams with my brother, which is so ironic that its argh XD

I had a few LD’s, but never a dream either lucid or normal where I would talk to someone about dreams… But that’s a sign that you’re on a good path…

I started to use techniques when I could remember 1 dream, but very vivid and detailed dream, so I think that you won’t have a problems… But of course you need to practice, and don’t give up

I mostly use MILD with WBTB, sometimes DEILD… I never try WILD, and I won’t for some time, because those techniques ^^ are working ok for me… Try to find those that suits you the best, and then adjust them to your needs

Cheers!

Any new experience is progress! and no guide, or rule, or technique, is set in stone. These things really change from person to person. I believe many people don’t get progress and end up frustrated because they follow guides too religiously. It’s a lot more important to let things happen and observe how things happen to you. An example is that some people see HI almost every time they WILD and some don’t. So the first person tells the second that “at that point you should see HI”. Then the second person gets stuck in their WILD attempt awaiting HI instead of letting things happen.

uhm, anyway. You can start techniques to get lucid whenever you want. It’s just that remembering dreams can really help. And as dB_FTS said, these skills go up and down sometimes for completely unknown reasons  nothing to worry about. In fact worrying and getting frustrated only makes things worse.

Good luck and welcome to ld4all
