Can someone shed some light on what I'm experiencing?

Last week I woke up at about 6am, watched TV for an hour then went back to sleep. However I became aware, I knew where I was but couldn’t move or speak, there was a weird sort of rushing sound and a sensation of moving almost floating from my body. I paniced and woke up fully.

I had heard of sleep paralysis before so did some research which led me to lucid dreaming. I came to the assumption maybe this was the way into a lucid dream.

I tried this again this morning, getting up for an hour then going back to sleep with the intention of becoming aware I was dreaming. I began to dream seeing a cityscape in my mind, I told myself I was dreaming and immediately the same experience I had had previously began, the rushing sound and the paralysis. I half paniced, half got excited and woke up.

I then went back to sleep and again experienced this, it was almost if my house became a train and was hurtling along a train track, there was noise and this time I attempted to remain calm, It felt like I lifted and flipped out of my body to a standing position but my eyes were still closed and at this point I paniced and reigned myself in and woke up.

Can anyone shed any light on this?, maybe relate to this or give me some advice how I can use this to achieve lucidity. I would like to become lucid but have no desire to have a real out of body experience, if there is a difference between them and OBEs aren’t just lucid dreams where the dreamer expects themselves to be at home in their bedroom seeing themselves in bed.

Thanks.

What you’re experiencing sounds indeed like Sleep Paralysis, which is a common feeling one has when inducing a lucid dream with WILD. What you should do is not panic but actually think for yourself that you are entering a dream, and knowing it.

What I do (used to do  ) is roll out of my physical body and stand up in my LD

You were very close to entering a lucid dream. I in fact envy how easily you are able to get that far. It can be a wild ride but you’ll get used to it if you experience it often. For me it’s a rare occurance and it takes me by surprise, It wouldn’t be a problem if it wasn’t for my breathing getting weird.

As for OBEs, I’m not a believer but even if I was I’d tell you to not worry. What you described is what happens when you WILD and unless you have a distinct notion that you are out of your body for real I don’t think it qualifies. And even if it would be, It’s perfectly safe.
