Everytime the topic of lucid dreaming comes up, I bring things up about them being extreemly realistic and why it can be hard to discern them from reality.
I bring up that the mind can perfectly recreat the environment, if the mind has seen it enough. People like mom bring up that in dreams people dont feel anything. What I cant get people to understand is that in my dreams things taste real and things feel real, as if I am really there.
These are people over twice my age. They should have had dreams like that by now. Why do most people follow the myth that in dreams things feel fake and that people cant taste.
I even bring up that when awake the feelings are meerly the brain reacting to stimuli and that in dreams the brain can recreate that feeling if it believes it is faced with stimuli.
Well I think your asking the wrong people, you should be asking them Most people are always told that dreams arn’t real, so that’s what they think. It’s like trying to convince a little girl that unicorns don’t exist, it just depends on what people believe.
I already gave up on preaching about Lucid Dreams and focus on helping myself.
There would be a time where lucid dreaming will be known soon.
(Almost all famous movie makers are lucid dreamers)
Lucid dreaming has even been scientifically proven, so I have no idea why people refuse to believe in science itself.
Actually there is this nice science periodic in my country that wrote a long article about lucid dreaming a few years ago, so I hope that helped in spreading the knowledge to some extent.
“You know, you can actually control your dreams!”
“:???:”
“Yeah, they feel exactly like real life thanks to a higher degree of awareness!”
“What?”
“It’s true, I have experienced this myself and it has been scientifically proven as well - this is how you do it (explains)”
“This is New Age?”
“No, really, you have got to try it yourself sometime, it’s highly developing in so many ways.”
“Heheh, okey. ”
“Do it sometime, it’s awesome!”
“We shall see (is this guy serious?)”
Pretty much the responses I get when I introduce people to this.
When I told my best buddy about LD-ing, he was like: “Uh-huh. You dreamt that you knewing you were dreaming, so what?” He never believed me that LD-ing is possible
Also, about one month ago, in philosophy class in school, we were talking about dreams, so I told everyone about how dreams can be controlled. Almost noone believed it, only one girl, who was a natural LD-er and surprised that controlling dreams is something special ^^
I guess people just don’t see anything in dreams worth “wasting their time”
People I think, are way to grounded in the material things. I suspect, that many dont get that there is much beyond that which can be held within the hand.
Exactly. It’s hard to talk to people about something they don’t know and aren’t interested in. It’s almost impossible to convince such people that LDing exists unless they have experienced/experience it themselves. I found that most people just don’t get the whole impact of lucid dreaming. If they really understood it, they would believe it, but that isn’t the case most of the time. I think this is mainly because the thought that dreams are unimportant, fake and just a very bad and unrealistic copy of real life is still stuck in the head of a lot of people.
Like moogle I choose to who I want to talk about LDing, with some people I just know that they won’t believe me…Then I first start a general small talk about dreams, and then I might throw in something like “Yeah you know, in one of my last dreams I suddenly realized I was dreaming!” From their reaction you can tell if it’s even worth to go more in-depth about the subject. Sometimes I was lucky and got responses like “Heh, happens to me also sometimes, it’s weird…”
Try talking about it like it is the most obvious thing in the world that doesn’t need to be explained or defended in any way. And if they seem confused just look at them with the expression of “Didn’t you know?”. They’ll feel like they are ignorant and have to pretend to be on board, with the expression of “Yeah, of course I’ve heard about this! I’m not a complete ignoramus.” Then all you need to do is to mention things like, you could smell the whatever, or you could feel the so-and-so, and you made such-and-such decisions based on the fact that you were dreaming. But don’t force it! Your opponent will be making mental notes like “there are smells, he is aware that he is dreaming” and so forth. In order to pull off the scam that he was already aware of these facts, he cannot contradict them. Later he’ll go and read up on the subject to verify what you said and to arm himself for future conversations. At that point, he’ll be learning that you are right.
Come on! Don’t look at me like that! It could work…
Hah, I got some doubtful reaction from a friend a few months ago, when I was like “hey, it’s actually possible to control dreams” and his reaction was like “oh… ” so it was obviously not worth talking about it any further than that - I just said “yeah” and changed the subject. xD
