Close to lucid dreaming?

So today I had a dream that seem to bring me closer to lucid dreaming but I’m not sure if it was a LD or not.

I’ve been practicing MILD techniques to improve my dream recall for about 3 or 4 weeks. I’ve been repeting in my head that I will remember my dream and now I’m at a point where I can remember at least one dream every night, sometimes even two. Some of them are quite clear.
However last night I chanced my mantra to “I will realise that I’m dreaming” while imagining that I will look at my hands in the dream. This kind of work but I’m not sure if I had a LD or not.

I was going to a market next to my university where I always go to buy the grocery but this time I couldn’t read the name of the shop. The name was very big and white but it was blurry and it looked like in a foreign alphabet. At that point I realised that I could be dreaming and looked at my hands. They looked like they were chopped out of wood, some of the fingers were a bit pointy. At this point I shouted “clarity” and the dream became a bit more vivid.

The problem is that although I could sense that I was dreaming, the dream still looked like a ND. I still couldn’t see clearly around myself and couldn’t control the narrative. I couldn’t even control myself. I was a simple spectator. And it still fellt a lot like a normal dream. The difference was that it was emotionally stronger and I woke up in the middle of the night, around 5 AM, something that doesn’t usually happen to me.

So my question is if this was a lucid dream or just a normal one. And does that mean that I am getting closer to becoming a lucid dreamer?

Hello Kraska,

Congratulations, it was probably a Lucid Dream. You are more than closer, you probably are a Lucid Dreamer.

Control and Clarity are different things that may not appear in Lucid Dreams, I hope it doesn’t disappoint you.

I hope you keep trying! I believe you have learned how to deal with the hardest part of LDing, which is starting.

I would qualify this as lucid dreaming. At first I did not know when or when I was not lucid dreaming but one of the telltale signs was if I was able to turn on a light switch within my dream. I have heard that light switches do not work while dreaming and that was when I first realized my first one.
