I have read a post on the forums where they said if you watch videos of a certain object and/or do a RC everytime you see something that has to do with that object u will eventually creat this into a dream sign. The post was closed and inactive so i make this new one ;.
Im thinking about creating your own dream signs alot and that is for the next reason.
A few nights ago i was watching videos from a guy doing experiments in space with zero gravity. I watched alot of those videos about space and no gravity and that night and the night afterwards i had dreams where things of the videos came back into my dreams. I had a dream with no gravity for example.
So now the question is if you can truely create your own dream signs by watching alot of videos about a certain object and doing reality checks when u see or hear anything that has to do with it.
Please comment with your thaughts about this and if you think that this can extually become a usefull technique.
If I had dreams about stuff I watched or thought about a lot, I wouldn’t need to practice lucid dreaming.
I role-play on a regular basis. I wish I had dreams about the characters I play and interact with, but in a year of role-playing nearly three to four times a week, I have only had two brief dream sequences about two (out of several dozen) of these characters.
I also have an almost unhealthy obsession with fantasy monsters and demons. However, I hardly ever dream of such things despite the fact I read books, watch videos, look at art, make my OWN ART, and play videogames featuring them almost constantly. Yet I, sorrowfully, do not dream of them.
I have had dreams based on things I had watched the night before, but it is usually something I do not bother to think of much.
I think the easiest and most efficient way to trigger lucid dreaming is to record your normal dreams in a journal and recognize what symbols appear the most frequently. When you encounter them in real life, you must whole-heartedly perform a reality check knowing full well that you could be dreaming at that moment. For instance, I know my most common dream symbols are bathrooms and (most recently) my hair being long. Every time I enter a bathroom, I do a reality check. Every time I touch my hair, I do a reality check.
Trying to create your own dream symbols to do reality checks to seems a bit counter-intuitive. Not only do you have to focus on doing a reality check in a dream, but also creating a symbol to appear in the dream itself.
^this.
Beat me to it. However I know that for me, it has helped that I actually found meaning in whatever your dream sign may be. For instance, one of my dream signs became airplanes… This was not on purpose, it just happened naturally. They don’t commonly appear in my dreams, but when they do, they are always going to crash, and usually in the direction towards me. That is definately an attention grabber. Whenever i see an airplane in my dreams, it’s an instant LD.
I’ve been keeping a dream journal for about a month, and I’ve just reached the point where i’m remembering at least one dream a night, and have started collecting (what I think, at least) are dream signs. I really feel like I’m making some progress. What type of reality checks do you find are the most helpful? And how long did it take you to have your first LD?
I had my first LD a few nights after having read about it. I find my most successful LDs come to me when I’m not trying… I guess that is to say when I don’t force it.
As far as my history of lucid dreaming goes, looking at my hands was the most convenient of RC s to perform… and the one least likely to earn me strange looks by passers-by in public during my waking life. However, after doing this, eventually my in-dream hands began to look REAL or I perceived them in a way that convinced me that I was not dreaming. I started counting fingers, but even that stopped working. Then I counted toes… and nope… still didn’t work.
Right now, my RC of choice is plugging my nose and trying to breathe through it. It takes a moment of concentration for me… Sometimes in my dreams I feel like my nose is actually plugged as I get the sensation of pressure in my sinuses, but I am still able to actually BREATHE. So IRL I have to think “AM I REALLY BREATHING?” and carry on the RC for a good thirty seconds or so.
The fact of the matter is you have to ACTUALLY test if you are dreaming or not. DON’T get into the habit of doing it as routine. You have to have an emotional commitment to thinking that your current reality MIGHT ACTUALLY BE PART OF A DREAM.
It’s generally good to do more than one type of RC at a time (I usually check a digital clock, plug my nose, and flick some lights on and off just to make sure).
