Demon hound etc. - A dog described as being out of hell. It is usually seen as a black dog with or without a head and having red glowing eyes. It’s also supposed to b a sign that you’ll die soon. It’s mainly out of Christian mythology and folklore, but could have originated from Egyptian mythology (Anubis) or Greek mythology (Keroberos, Cerberus).
I’d recommend wikipedia then - there’s so much about folklore there, norse, african, greek, etc. And with very detailed and relieable information.

In Sweden it was the trolls that did that ,changed a human baby to a troll baby, “bortbytingar” in Swedish.
Here is some new creatures that I found out about from
X-files
Seraphim and Nephilim
The Seraphim is an angel with four faces, a man, a lion, an eagle and a bull.
quote from X-files, a priest talking to Scully
I just remembered faun too as a creature in folklore
Laminak:
In the Basque Country, they have funny goblins. They are called “Laminak” (it’s a plural, I suppose it’s one Lamina, many Laminak). Laminak are sort of little fairies which are sometimes good, sometimes evil, according to how you behave. If you’re kind with them, by giving them some milk in a cup near the fireplace, they may make you gifts.
They are generally known to build bridges in one night. There is no bridge, you wake up and there is now a bridge cause the Laminak built it during the night. Near my father’s family house, there is an old brigde which is said to be built by Laminak.
Came cruse:
In the Pyrenean folkore, there is the most strange being which is called the “came cruse”. It means the “nude leg”. It’s just one hairy leg with a mouth. It hurtles down mountains during the night and frighten lost travellers. Now I walked many times in the mountains by night and I didn’t meet it, by chance. It was perhaps because I wasn’t lost.
Mano peloso: (?)
Something not so different. My great-grand mother was from Genova in Italy. They had there something which was called “mano peloso” (?), the “hairy hand”. I’m unsure on how it was said, it’s sounded more like “manate pelute” in my memory. It’s something like the Old Hag, I suppose, cause it’s a hand which walks alone by night and strangle people when they are asleep.
Encantadas:
There are also fairies in the Pyrenees. They are called the “encantadas”, which is curious cause it means “enchanted girls”. It’s like there were normal people who were put a spell on and become fairies. Those fairies are beautiful but generally not very kind. It depends on the region. They live near fountains or in moutain lakes and create storms. It’s possible to meet one and marry her, thus dispelling temporarily magic, but the results are unforeseen and they often return to the mountains.
And other Fées:
Many people still believe in fairies (“fées”) in France. A Fée is not a normal sized woman like “encantadas”, it’s a very little and pretty women, generally with butterfly wings. This belief came recently from England, cause in the previous centuries, fées were just old wise women, knowing magic, who lived out in the wilds.
People also believe in ghosts (“fantômes”) and more rarely in werewolves (“loups garous”). I’ve heard one story of werewolf though.
Le Croquemitaine:
This is no more known unless in some french usual expressions. It’s no more used in children tales, it’s replaced by the wolf. The Croquemitaine was an oger which ate the hands of little children. By chance, there is just one Croquemitaine.
Ankou:
Ankou is a legendary creature from Brittany. It’s the death. It looks like a skeleton with a dark cloak. It has a cart in which it transports dead people. You can only meet it by night, and generally in these precise circumstances: its cart has a problem, it got stuck in the mud or something like that. Then the Ankou asks you to help him. Sometimes, he knocks on the nearest house door and asks for help. It’s not dangerous, you just got off with a fright. Due to the good work of the highways department engineers in France, very few people are bothered by the Ankou nowadays.
Le marchand de sable:
The Sandman is also known in France. It’s the “marchand de sable”, the sand merchant. When I was a little boy and I was sleepy , my mother told me: “Go to bed or else the “marchand de sable” will come”.
La Dame Blanche:
The Dame Blanche (“woman in white”) is an long-time-told-about folklore creature and it’s still said to be seen in France. It’s said to be the ghost of a girl who died in an accident. When you drive a car by night, you see a girl hitchhiking. She wears a white dress. When she’s in your car, and when you come to the dangerous bend where she died, she says : “Be careful, it’s a dangerous bend!” then she disappears.
Thus it’s something like a dangerous bend warning sign, but more ghostly. The curious thing is, there has been a report in the 90’s near Pezenas, in the South of France. Four students were in a car, and what I said above occured. They were so surprised that they went to a police station and told their story. The gendarmes believe they were drunk or joking, but it wasn’t the case. It’s still unexplained.
It’s a very old belief cause there were stories like that in the XVIII century. Of course, it was not in a motor car. A horse rider saw a white-dressed woman, she asked him for help and he made her ride behind him, etc.

hmm, anyone heard about something called dybbuks?
this time it’s again from the X-files so I don’t know how reliable it is, and it’s about
Golems in the Jewish tradition
it’s said that they information about Golems comes from the Jewish book “Sefer Yezirah”
It is told that a righteous man can create a living being from the earth itself
It’s brought to life only by the power of the word
Quote from X-files episode Kaddish
Tp bring a golem to life you should on the back of it’s hand write the word emet- that consists of the letters; alef, mem and tav.
Emet means truth
golem means “matter without form, body without soul”
In legends golems runs amok and has to be destroyed by it’s creator.
And they destroy the golem by erase the letter alef and now the word reads as met and met means dead (or death??)
