DEILD/DR question from a beginner

I had a couple questions I was hoping some one who has experience and success with DEILD could answer

Since i began reading about LDs ive been going to bed between 11-11:30 and waking up at 1:30, 3-3:30 and i have a timed alarm at 6 then i get up at 7:30 for work. When waking up at 1:30 and 3, i dont use any alarms and wake up almost as if i had one set,
The thing that made me interested in DEILD was the chaining of my dreams that occured two nights ago, i woke up at my normal times and each time i fell asleep i returned to my previous dream while attempting and failing WILD.

My question regarding DEILD is… should i set my alarm about 10 minutes earlier then normal to pull me out my my dream? I have an alarm that has a nice tone that goes off once i could use for this.

My next question is, the last 3 nights ive been trying to use headphones with tones to help with lucid dreaming but it seems my dream recall has faded significantly, is this something that is common? I am going to revert to what i was doing prior but i was hoping tones would help me make greater progress.

Thanks in advance

One more quick thing, i was wondering if any one had any tips for my situation…

-Had a lucid dream after 3 nights when i was using a rain sound on my alarm clock all night, combined with an app on my phone that played delayed ocean waves - since my LD ive been regressing badly
-seem to wake up every night at 1:30, 3-330 without an alarm
-when attempting wild i fail then just try to fall asleep and right before i fall asleep i seem to snap awake realizing i was about to fall asleep then have extreme difficulty sleeping
-dream recall has almost disappeared with headphones, i remember i was dreaming after waking up but i can not recall any vivid details

any tips would be appreciated!

Double posts edited together. :mattias:

That’s happens to me quite a lot, returning to previous dream but I don’t realize it…
That’s how I started with DEILD!

I don’t know, that’s really on you, you need to experiment with this…

If is not something that you do usually then this could result in losing DR, DR is like that, whatever you change may cause losing DR…

That’s very common with WILD tries… My advice is always the same: When you feel that you reached the same point as usually in WILD attempt and when you know that after that you will only be awake more then when you went to sleep[which usually happens] in that very moment you let yourself asleep with thought in your mind: I will fall asleep now and I will realize that I’m dreaming… or something like that

The thing is if you don’t let yourself fall asleep you can’t dream, you stay mentally awake even if your body fall asleep in the process/SP. So that’s the thing about WILD. Details you need to figure out, because WILD needs a lot of experimenting and adjusting…

Good luck and have fun! :content:

thanks for taking the time to read and reply dB, think im going to experiment a little bit with waking up in my dreams over the weekend, im fairly confident that the headphones are destroying my DR, hopefully the sleep mask I ordered wont kill it too!

thanks again for the advice!

Like what DB said, when you are WILDing you would want to stay mentally awake, but not avoid sleeping

So when you realize yourself falling asleep, don’t stop it! Just let yourself fall asleep because that is what you want, but fall asleep with awareness. Observe the process of falling asleep.

WILDing is not falling asleep while being awake, it’s falling asleep while being aware.

Thanks for your response, I find WILD interesting, when I snapped awake it was after I gave up on WILD and I was just attempting to fall asleep, it was almost like a reaction to me falling asleep, similar to the reaction you get from touching something hot, it was instant very sharp and involuntary.
This happened after attempting WILD for about 25 minutes, I made it to the stage Of seeing blocks of colors in my eyelids but every time this happened my eyes seemed to dart around by themselves no matter how hard I attempted to stop it.

Last night I removed my headphones and in the morning when I woke up I had 4 pages worth of notes waiting for me, so it was definitely the headphones!

I believe I also had a partial chain in my dreams last night, while the dreams were completely different I had the same people present in 2/3 of my dreams.

Thanks again for the responses, going to attempt WILD on the weekends and stick to DEILD during the week, I can see a great potential with DEILD, even now with just vivid dreams, going to sleep at night is very exciting for me. I’ve been missing out for awhile haha wish I found out about lucid dreaming a couple years ago!
