I hope this doesn´t have a topic somewhere else already.
So, I downloaded a shareware demo program sort of thing called Atmosphere Lite where you can chose from a small range of soundscape settings (such as ocean, rainforest, morning forest etc.) and it´s nice as a kind of background thing. As an additional function you can tick little fields for what I think are different sound waves.
The program has:
Alpha
Beta
Theta
Delta
Alpha and Beta are some sort of humming sound, the other two are either sub hearing level or not included in the demo version. I googled those things and found out it´s different waves that can also be measured in your brain at certain sleep stages. So I was wondering, does anyone else know whether it might be subconsciously helpful to activate one of those wave tracks, even those I can´t hear to help lucid dreaming?
As much as I understood, those waves are generated as an un-wanted result, just like your computer may produce sound waves through its fans.
Oh, and its electromagnetic waves, not sound waves.
But it may relate to some psychic ability, if one exists.
Ah I see. I know so little about physics it´s embarassing, so thanks
Oh well, I´ll test if it has an effect.
Background noises can be good; I liked to fall asleep to the “night forest” sound (and the real thing when I can) or ocean waves. Havnen’t thought of doing it in a while actually. Another thing I’ve realized is that I have one cd that just knocks me out every time. Its called “Streams” but its religious music, not sounds.
Unfortunately I’m not sure I understand much about the Alpha, Beta, Theta, and Delta waves to tell you much more but I say go for it. Test it out. It may not be a bad idea to put this up on the lab forum.
Our brains generate beta waves when we are awake (or dreaming, I believe);
alpha waves when we are in a relaxed state, such as meditating or day dreaming;
theta waves when we are at the border of sleep;
and delta waves when we are in deep sleep.
I’m not 100% sure about this…
So I believe alpha (and maybe theta) may be able to help if you’re trying to WILD. These waves might help you enter the relaxed state necessary to WILD.
Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, I thought I knew a bit more about these waves…
I hope I could help…
anyway, I believe beta won’t help…
I’ll repeat what I said: As much as I understood, those ways re merely an indication of how your mind thinks: wether its calmly, normally etc. They are [probably] Byproducts, not actually useful waves.
On the other hand, it won’t hurt to experiment, although I doubt it will have any effect.
I had a look at the website and it says there are 16 binaural brainwave tracks, I suspect that they have named the different tracks with the name of the brainwave they are supposed to induce. My understanding of binaural beats was that it played two different frequencies of sound, one from the left and one from the right. They say that this affects your brainwaves. I don’t know if it works or if it is a placebo effect. I do know that if you intend using binaural beats you would probably need to use headphones, since otherwise both ears would hear both tones and the idea relies on different tones to each ear.
Whether this would help Lucid Dreaming or not, depends on if you believe binaural beats work. If you believe they work and can affect your brainwaves, it could certainly help you to lucid dream. I suspect you are probably right that the silent tracks are not included in the demo, I didn’t think Binaural beats were sub-sonic.
