I found this method in the Lucid Dreaming Kit by Brad Thompson. You get a digital watch with the ability to beep every hour. Every time you hear a sound like the beep (or the beep itself) you do a reality check. In your sleep, you should hear the beep of the watch and do a reality check in your dream, thus realizing you are lucid.
Are digital watches a good way to become lucid? What’s your opinion?
Where can we find this watch? on the web I mean?
It’s just a regular watch. Most of them beep once every hour.
I just got a Nixon watch for 65 dollars earlier today and it works, but I’m sure there’s some cheaper. Just check your local Longs, they’ll have some digital watches from about $20.
Yes, as far as I know most regular digital watches can be set to beep every hour. Mine does it (but it’s disabled by default). I’ll look at that method this night.
I just purchased a watch at amazon.com made for people who take medicine at regular intervals. Basically i wanted something that vibrates instead of beeps for two reasons, beeping wakes up my girlfriend and i often sleep with my arm under a pillow so I don’t hear the beep.
The thing with the watch that made me interested was that you set a “countdown timer” for any period you like, say 1 hour and 25 minutes. It will then count down, vibrate, and automatically reset every 1hour25min. I can use it during the days even if I’m on the subway with my headphones on and still be able to do a reality check. It also works in the way that 10min before the alarm and 5min before the alarm it vibrates once to indicate that it’s soon time. For me this short vibration at 5/10 min before is not enough to wake me but the alarm itself vibrates for 20 sec. and wakes me.
I have only used it for a few days and I haven’t had a lucid dream yet but my hope is that i set it for perhaps one and a half hour and it will give me 2 chances to LD and then the real alarm will wake me while I still have the dream in fresh memory. Also, you can set two conventional wake-up alarms on it so every morning before I wake up I will have two short vibrations 10+5min before to give me a last chance at having a LD

…there are other vibrating watches out there as well, I think casio has one called “pathfinder” or something, made for hunters.
My watch is a Timex that can’t be set to beep every hour- I’ll just use the timer function and reset it each time I do a RC.
