Hey, I learnt about Lucid Dreaming a few days ago, and I’ve been obsessed. I’ve been doing reality checks among other things, and have unsuccessfully tried WILD. The first night, I only had vague thoughts of what I dreamt when I woke. The second, I had a single memory of one DC. Finally, last night, I woke up after sleeping for 5 hours and went back to bed. I woke intermittently through the night, and in the end I had 3 very detailed dreams written down. It was such a shock to jump from 0 to 3. I feel like it may have been a fluke.
Can anyone lend me advice about this? Can I expect to remember dreams again tonight or was this a one off?
Also, how long after this can I expect to come close to lucid dreams. (I nearly had one, but my reality check did not work, so advice on that would be helpful. My dream journal is here (beware, I have written an enormous amount about last night.) conscious-dreams.tumblr.com
(also is it a good sign for my dream recollection that I could write 1700 words in like 20 minutes about my dreams. Note that I initially wrote them down on paper, than transferred them to my blog)
That’s actually much like when I began. First night was just vague ideas (I think one of my dreams was actually greyscale ), the second was a little better, then it took off. You might not continue at 3 dreams every night, and will probably level off at least, but do expect to remember a good amount of detail for so long as you stick with it. Without actually going back to double check my old DJ’s, I want to say I was very quickly averaging 2-4 decently detailed dreams a night. I was in high school at the time, so during the week I usually dropped to about 1 a night, while on the weekends I caught up with 4 or 5 at a time.
The more detail you can recall and write (and it sounds excitedly at that) the better.
Personally, it took me roughly a month from that time to have my first LD.
Thanks for your response, Ill just keep at it, and see what happens. On the weekends I might try techniques but right now Im focusing on making my dreams as vivid as possible.
Hi brendonnelly, wonderful to see such enthusiasm! The time it takes to develop multiple dreams and finally launch into LDs varies from person to person. You are certainly on track and with such desire and more to the point, actually practicing lots and writing so much detail about your dreams, you will get things moving fairly quickly. WILDs can take a while to initiate even for advanced LDers, so be patient but by all means continue to practice. Don’t be put off if you don’t get results immediately. Try MILDs after you wake up from a dream as well - this is a good technique when starting out. It worked well for me anyhow.
As for jumping from 0 to 3 dreams, that’s great! It may level out there for a while or may increase, it depends on you. I remember in my early day that after a couple of months, going at a similar pace to what you are describing, having from 15 - 20 dreams a night! It actually became a bit exhausting LOL but i loved it so much I just pushed on but burnt myself out and had to settle down a bit. So try not to burn yourself out like I did Pace yourself, your enthusiasm is great and that will help bring you great results…hang in there and keep asking lots of questions
I just started getting interrested in LD’s and OOBS, and like you i have 1 dream which i could remember the first night, and this night (2nd) i had 2, pretty clear ones.
even though i fail all attempts to get into Ludicity or SP yet, i am getting pretty clear memory of the dreams im having i cant wait to learn more about it, and start being able to get into SP and do LD’s
Thanks for all the support guys. Last night I could only remember one dream despite waking up multiple times through the night, but the fact that I am remembering even vague dreams (rather than the often quite vivid ones I spoke about in my OP) I think shows me that I am getting better. It might also have something to do with the fact I went to bed a couple of hours later than usual last night (I was at work). Do you think that would impact greatly on my DR?
Also I practiced WILD when I woke again last night, but I couldn’t stop myself from swallowing, and just went to sleep. It’s weird because on the first night I tried I was able to overcome everything and get to SP, but I did it right after going to sleep, so I didn’t get any HI.
It’s difficult to say if going to bed later has impacted on your DR. I have read posts here where some folk have difficulty with lucidity if their sleep patterns are too disturbed but for me it seems to be the opposite - the more disturbed, often the better the recall and more LDs. I have found that rather than practicing WILDs after waking from dreams early in the morning, if I just focus and gently watch the HI form I can often ‘step’ into a LD without losing consciousness, which is of course similar to WILD but without any meditation or relaxing needed. It doesn’t happen every time (sadly ) but if I don’t get a LD from it, then I usually get very vivid dreams.
It’s going to be different for each person so it’s a matter of finding how you personally get the best results. I keep a fairly detailed DJ so I can look back over it for correlations and continue to hone the methods that work for me.
This morning I got up early for half an hour (at 4.30am) and went back to sleep while observing HI and had a very vivid dream with 7 DS and I missed every dang one of them!!! So sometimes I just have to laugh at myself for missing the bleeding obvious and hope for a better result tonight!
