Dream Recall

I’ve been having trouble lately writing down my dreams when I wake up. By the the time I get up and turn over, many details of my dreams are lost (I know this is common) and all of the dreams seem jumbled in my mind. I write down what I can, but when I have summer school I try to write down the major points of my dream, when I get home, I hardly remember the dream at all.
This afternoon I went home to take a nap for a few hours and I had this extremely vivid dream. I was so good I had to write it down. I could recall and write down so many more details than I could in the morning. Why is this? How can I prevent the details was being lost in the morning?

generally, if you lay in bed for several minutes (probably 5) and just think about those few details, about how you were feeling when you woke up, about what you were doing a few minutes ago, etc, the details of the dream will begin to become more clear. then, it is easy to work backwards to figure out what happened in the dream. when writing them down, you can either write in chunks backwards, to try to work your way to the beginning and then write down from there back to the end. i find it very difficult to remember all the details when i wake up, but i keep thinking about my dreams and more details come to me.

also, writing them down in full when you wake up helps a lot becuase details do get lost during the day. if you don’t have time to write them down, wake up 15 minutes earlier. it is well worth the lost sleep.

best of luck!

When you wake up, before turning over to write your dream, stay still and try to remember it… Don’t move in any way. Once you have remembered most of it, get your DJ and write it down.

About naps in the afternoon… Usually if no one or anything wakes you up (alarm), you have a longer REM period, and maybe more dreams. I once remembered three dreams on a really long night sleep.

Good luck
