Ever have intense hypnic jerks?

Hi all. I don’t often experience the more prominent effects of SP; such as muscular sensation/insensate effects… but when I can recognize I’m entering a stage 1 or 2 n-rem period I often have very inexplicably intense hypnic jerks. It usually centers on either shoulder joint or the neck region, and sometimes feels like it’s comparable to an actual myoclonic reaction as far as intensity. It’s also accompanied with a sudden emotional shock and instant tachycardia, so it’s extremely frustrating how i can completely spaz out or flip out of my sheets and have my WILD progress set back like that  I know it’s supposed to be a typical SP-related phenomena (related to k-complexes or sleep spindles i think) and usually manifests in a small twitch in most people. I was wondering if anyone experiences them in equal intensity and can offer advice?

Before I knew what they where, before I started to attempt lucid dreaming, I would have such intense jerks that it would wake my wife up and physically scare the crap out of me. Almost to the point where I had to get up and take a breather. I have had this happening to me for as long as I can remember.

Oh man, tell me about it. Sometimes feels like a 1/4 of a second seizure  Another strange thing is the one time I’ve tried using binaural beats as an aid, it seemed to make the tics even worse and more frequent for a short duration afterwards. Since then ive stopped manually alternating my brain voltage-frequency

ive experimented with binaural beats, they seem to really help me, I also use the relaxation methods in Steven Laberge book and that also seems to relieve some of the jerks I ocasionally get.

That’s interesting. I havnt had time to look for the book anywhere. but i don’t see any lack of incentive to do so now. What other good stuff does he have in that there book?

I would call it the bible for lucid dreaming, very straight forward. It explains everything from your sleep paterns and when your body goes into an REM state, to how to relax the body to get into the REM state quuicker. He goes into full detail about every method to induce LD’s. hard to explain, but i picked the book up for 8 bucks at a book store.

He has two books out, the one im refering too is “Exploring the world of lucid dreaming” his second book that I havent bought yet even comes with a CD.
