As many people already said, everybody has to find his own way to achieve lucidity, and with this post i wanted to stress this. Yesterday i realized, that in every single one of my lucid dreams i just simply knew i was dreaming. No RC no moment of clarity like “Ah this can´t happen in RL i must be dreaming”. So this was the moment when i realized: no techniques, no nothing just a DJ and achieving this “knowledge” by improving my “dreaming-skills”. And this is the advice i can give to everybody: Think about what makes you lucid and don´t follow any technique blindly.
Lucid dreaming is highly personal, everyone does it in his or her own way as ya put it 
Yeah, many of my LD’s are also totally spontaneous. The latest one I had started as a ND. Then, suddenly I became lucid. Totally out of the blue. No RC’s, no questioning the reality, no nothing. I simply declared that I was dreaming
