Hi! While I am new here, I’m not really planning on staying. I just have a question.
I’ve been working at lucid dreaming for about two weeks. In a recent dream, I wondered if I was dreaming, and did two reality checks, the ‘pinch nose’ test and the clock test. I couldn’t breathe through my fingers and my watch gave the right time (5 something PM), so I concluded that the dream was real. Now, did I just get unlucky testing, or am I missing something?
Hi JustVisiting !
In a recent dream, I tried to look at my hands and push one finger through my other hand, but my hands were normal and solid, and I concluded that I wasn’t dreaming…
Reality checks never work at 100%, indeed. LDers have searched for years for a “perfect” RC, but it seems that it doesn’t exist. The 2 RC’s your tried are said to be very good… but they can fail too !
Sometimes, some RC’s work for some people, and don’t work for other people. Try another one, or expect more luck in a next dream with these two RC’s.
I count my fingers, and that RC has never failed me (as I know of). I always (in dreams) have 6 fingers one each hand, or 9 fingers on one hand and whatever. There have been moments where I’ve pondered if 6 fingers is the normal number of fingers though

also, when looking at a clock, do it several times, to see if the time stays correct…
as well as with the nose-breath check, do it several times…
in one dream I had, I did the nose-breath rc 3 times, of which the first two failed.
also, when doing the RC, believe you can do it…
Last night I had a dream in which I performed my favorite reality check by counting my fingers. I had five, so I concluded I wasn’t dreaming. This was the first occurence of this reality check failing on me, so now I’m trying to adopt other ones, such as looking at my watch and reading text twice.
I think doing more than one reality check when you perform one will help, because if one fails the other might not.
I personally have a large number of RC’s (six or seven) cos they rarely work for me. So, when I think it I may be dreaming, I go through all of them until one tells me I’m dreaming.
Even if all of them fail, I keep in mind that it could still be a dream, so I study my enviroment looking for any anomolies (you’ll notice them better in this pre-lucid stage).
when you do RC’s in your waking state expect them to prove you are dreaming. For instance, when you do the hold your nose RC expect that you will be able to breath. Our expectations have a strong effect on our dreams.
Do the RC at least twice. Like the watch RC, look at the time then look away and expect the time to be different when you look back.
Good luck and I hope that after you look around ld4all for a while you will decide to stick around. There are Lots of great people here and helpful information as well.
I do RC for some time by now and I never really did a RC in my dream what’s wrong then I don’t understand I do it so much in the day a couple of 30 times or maybe it’s to much I don’t know could somebody please help me I do it already 3 weeks
Thanx

I did a nosebreath RC again this morning while I was sleeping…
and at first it worked… so I tried another one, just to be sure… I tried to push my hands through eachother or through other objects, but that didn’t work…
so I did the nose breath RC again… and now it kept on failing… so in my dream I thought to myself… well, maybe I didn’t hold my nose tight enough…
AAAARGH! a missed opportunity to stay lucid!
In my opinion there is no such thing as doing too many RC ‘s. What is important is that you do them right. Take the time to consider the possibility that you are dreaming. Don’t just do an RC and say nope I am not dreaming. Look around and experience things as if you are dreaming. Then prove that you are not.
Some additional things to consider:
You keep and study your DJ, Right?
Add another induction method like MILD or WILD.
usually, when in my dream pops the question "Am I dreaming ? " I start to do a reality check but I kind of have the answer that I am dreaming before doing the test itself … it’s like a weired feeling . and the test that never failed me is the one with the light switches … Actually … it failed once … but in real life )
