Falling asleep too fast for WILD

Hi, if been trying to have a LD using WILD technique, but I always have the same problem: I fall asleep too fast. What are some techiniques to combine relaxation and focusing?

(yeah, I’ve tried counting)

I have the same problem. I’ve found a good way to stay focused is to visualize something really simple that you enjoy focusing on. It should not be something that you have to think too hard about but it should interest you. For example sometimes I use a game of Pong or imagine I’m riding a bike.

I’ve found counting generally gets boring after a short while and keeps me awake, but some people find it easier than visualizing. It’s different for everyone. Good luck in your future attempts

Personally, I find focusing on some auditory cue easy to keep myself aware during WILD. Usually during WBTB, I focus on tinnitus (that ringing noise in your ear), but sometimes I listen to music.

Focus on your breathing and on your mind and thoughts. You need to observe yourself falling asleep.

What helps me is writing about the WILD experience. Try to do ’ research’ on WILD and you’ll be better concentrated and obeservant than normal.

I fall asleep very slowly, so my problem with WILD is the opposite. I never fall asleep while doing the technique. Wich to me seems way worse. In EWLD Stephen Laberge writes that it’s easier to WILD if you fall asleep fast.
Try focusing on your body, If you fall asleep fast then you should be able to notice the symptoms faster. But basically, try to stay more aware, no matter wich technique you use.
For me, I fail because I lay there and eventually give up because nothings happening and I run out of patience.

Yeah, exactly the same with me. It takes me ages to fall asleep, and therefore I never know WHEN I will fall sleep. I could spend hours trying to WILD, but never falling asleep. Oh well.

I have a question that ive never really gotten an answer to. To all of you who frequently WILD, about how long does it take? I dont understand if its normally about 10 minutes or like an hour.

About 10 minutes for me. If it takes any longer than that, I end up with temporary insomnia.

Today I tried, but still, It doesn’t exactly work. I start counting, and after a minute or two, I find myself thinking in something else, as if it was the start of a dream but still it isn’t, and not counting, and restart counting from the last number I remember. Or I simply fall asleep.

I should foucs more. Let’s see if for tomorrow, I have some results :eh:

Edit:

Hell, wait. I have just re-readed the WILD tutorial on the page. Is this that moment when I have to reach the “knowingness”, enter the dream by grabbing an object or somthing similar? Or maybe have to wait a little longer, make it clearer, and then reach knowingness?

This knowingness for me (Though I haven’t become lucid yet) is the time when I feel solid  At first my body gets num, then I feel like I’m floating, spinning or whatever. I see imagery and stuff, and finally I feel as if I’m standing on solid ground with a solid body looking at the scenery.
Usually here’s where it all ends for me.
