Focus and LDs

I’m having a bit of a problem mantaining LDs. In fact I already had more than 400 LDs, but all lasted less than 3 minutes. I have some problems with concentration and I’ve read in the articles on this forum that focusing is one way to prolong LDs.

Could my lack of good focus be the reason my dreams are so short?

What exactly is the problem? Do you wake up shortly after becoming lucid, have a FA, or just lose lucidity?

If you’re constantly waking up, you can try things like shouting, “Increase lucidity x 1000!” or spin around, or rub your hands together. One of the things I do to keep myself from waking up is keep myself occupied. Not focusing on that I’m dreaming but that I can do anything I want. This works for me but not everyone as it can cause you to drift into a ND.
If it’s FA’s, make a habit of doing a RC everytime you wake up so that FA’s aren’t a problem anymore.
If it’s LD’s turning into ND’s, try constantly reminding yourself throughout the dream that your dreaming: Constant RC’s and things that generally aren’t possible in WL. Even repeating to yourself that you’re dreaming should be helpful.

Thanks! :woo:  :content:

yay, finally I don’t feel so alone. I’ve also had a goo number of LD’s (300+) but still have lots of trouble maintaining the LD. I’ve tried everything, I think… but I’m trying to focus more, I think that is indeed my problem. Focus on my senses and whatever the dream gives me.

We’ll get there.

Try staring intently at a finger. Focus on it. Do not let your focus wander. Do that in LDs. IRL if you want to practice focus stare at something, and do not let your mind wander from that object. Or meditate, but if you are not good at focus, it may prove difficult to even try to clear your mind and focus.
With practice focus will come. Never give up.

I’m sure.

I might - might! - have found my problem, who knows it might be the same with you?

Anyway, it’s emotional. Close to getting too excited when I get lucid. I guess I’m afraid I’ll wake up and that wakes me up. So today in my LD I remembered to stop and rub my hands. I told myself out loud “I am calm” and tried to truely feel calm, taking a few deep breaths.

This might sound obvious, I know :shy: but it worked perfectly for me. The thing is I didn’t exactly notice I wasn’t calm :bored:

Excellent job, mattias!
You can practice calming down IRL also by practicing clearing your mind or meditation.
