getting stuck after becoming lucid...

I’ve been practicing dream recall and RC a lot recently. It finally payed off about a week ago. I woke up in my bed, and realized that I was dreaming. However, when I tried to get out of my bed I became stuck. As if some invisible force was holding me back.

I’ve never had this happen before, and it was incredibly frustrating. I tried with all my will to get out of a seated position - nothing worked. I was completely lucid, and my dream was extremely real.

After a few minutes of struggling - I woke up. Since then I haven’t had another MILD. Does anyone else have things like this happen to them?

Are you sure it wasn’t SP?
Because that’s what it sounds like to me.
Did you notice any specific signs that it was a dream?

In any case, even if it was SP it was still an extremely good sign, since this practically means you are entering a lucid dream.

Absolutely not. I have extensive experience with sleep paralysis. I’m sure that it was originally an FA. That’s why I became lucid in the first place. I wasn’t stuck in a sleeping position either. I just couldn’t get out of my bed - for whatever reason.

Also - sleep paralysis has never led to an LD for me - only AP.

Ah okay, I have experienced something similar myself; I believe the reason why this happens is because you need to get used to how your body works in the dreamworld, since there are obviously completely different “rules” in the dreams.
Also you need to really believe that you have complete control over your actions.

I think you’re right, I was very excited to be lucid, and I wasn’t focused on anything except getting out of bed.

I’ve had something similar happen to me a couple times. I “wake up” in my room, but when I do the nose-pinch reality check, I’m dreaming. However, I can’t get up and go anywhere and all I see is the same scene (my vantage point from where I’m laying) because MY (real) EYES ARE OPEN! In my disoriented state I don’t figure out that I should close my eyes in the moment because I think I’m seeing a dream, when it’s my actual reality I see. Although I can feel my “dream body” moving, I can’t “go” anywhere because the scenery doesn’t change.

This may not be your problem, but maybe someone else could have such an issue.

I recently had something similar. I was in the middle of the longest & most stable LDs I’ve had, and I was in the house. I got my bearings in the house, and for whatever reason decided to see the rainforest. I stood there, closed my eyes, expected to land on the rainforest, and ended up… Back in the house. Did the nose pinch RC, was in the same LD, did more stuff in the house as a few things were different so I checked them out. I remembered I’ve been trying since forever to get to a bit of a video game that I’d like to explore in first person, so I figured if closing my eyes in the dream wouldn’t work, I’d try standing expecting that another environment was behind me, then turn round and expect it to be there. When I turned round I ended up… Back in the damn house!! Did RC again, etc etc… This went on for a while. I figure it’s like Laurelindo says… You need time and practice to acclimatise to the imaginary environment, and believe that you can influence it. A good 50% of the time, I can make a familiar person appear in the dream. Objects and environments, I’m still working on!

Actually, I think that might be the issue. I remember my room being completely real. More so then usual, in fact. Maybe I wasn’t keeping my eyes closed. Normally when I’ve had AP experiences it’s the opposite effect. I’ll leave my body, but I won’t be able to see anything clearly. Like I have beer goggles on…

I’m still waiting for my next LD experience, so I’ll report in if it happens again. It’s weird to think that you could be dreaming while your eyes are open, but I guess it actually makes perfect sense, considering hypnagogic imagery can often times cross into our waking state. Thanks for the feedback!

Well, I do have that kind of problem from time to time when I become lucid because of FA’ing but my experience was never like your. You had a vivid and real life like experience with me it’s usually very blurry or I have a really hard time to open my eyes.

Then I would rub my hands or shout: “increase lucidity” or “lucidity 100%” and thing get better, vision, senses and the “force” that is chaining me to the bed, weakens.

Like the others said emotions and feeling do play a great deal in this situations. That’s why it’s important to modulate your feelings. Become the dream, calm yourself and talk some sense in yourself. Tell yourself: This is a dream and I will raise up. Make a positive yet ground standing statement. Believe in words and they’ll come true…

Good luck! :content:

For the first time in awhile, I had an awesome LD last night. No FA this time - instead - I was at a shopping mall. I shouted “lucidity times one thousand!” Everything became incredibly clear, and the DC’s all went away. I sat down and watched the blood moon for awhile, when suddenly the environment started shifting into the surface of the moon. I realized that I didn’t wanna be on the moon, so I kept this from happening, and I was still in the mall. I then began to fly superman style outside of a window. This is all great progress for me, especially since I was worried about getting trapped in my bed again!
