# Gravity in dreams, among other things...

What limits will be pushed?
Man has always been accustomed to walking on flat land or being weightless (falling and jumping). What happens if you’ve been playing Prey (videogame) too much. All videogames up to now have always been played with gravity in some form or another alwyas pointing “down”. In Prey, gravity points in whatever direction it pleases. You’ll be fighting enemies who are standing on the “roof” or walls. For that matter, there are portals to anywhere. (It should be noted that one cannot see through a portal in-game if one is too far away.)

Has anybody had dreams with gravity that is erratic or strange? Anybody?

What are your thoughts on this concept.

Yes, I’ve had many dreams with no gravity or screwed up gravity. In some of them, you could just step onto a wall and gravity will shift for you

Gravity often ‘breaks’ in my NDs.

If I jump in the air, I often don’t come down.

if I go up or down stairs I usually start flying.

I’ll have to try walking up a wall in an LD

I had a LD in which gravity was reversed so that I was standing on the ceiling. But other objects behaved normally (if all the objects are submitted to a reversed gravity in a room, you won’t notice the difference cause the ceiling will be the floor and vice versa. ).

And the most curious case I know is Julian Iron. In his LD’s, his main problem is not flying but stopping to fly or flying too high cause it’s like gravity was reversed for him and he has to make efforts to stay near the ground.

If you think about it, gravity in dreams is really just an expectation - we succumb to gravity every waking moment of our lives (well, except for astronauts ), so it’s no wonder we expect that gravity will apply in dreams. But, I find that once I become lucid, gravity will not work properly, since I know there is no gravity to begin with.

Redstone is dead right, most of my dreams have gravity because I am accustomed to it an expect it, however I have had ND’s without gravity and with varying gravity.

Well, I’ve never played “Prey” (I’ve never heard of it until now, actually), but I have had quite a few dreams where gravity has been, erm, weird:

Upside-Down Gravity
My most recent lucid dream (a couple of months ago now) half took place with all the gravity upside-down! It was really strange - we were walking down a path, and there was this point that, when crossed, would turn everything upside down.

It wasn’t gravity as such, I suppose, because my feet were still on the ground and all, but all of a sudden my perception changed so that it seemed as if I was now walking on the ceiling, and the path was above me. Yes, very strange. But it didn’t last long, because it changed back to normal eventually.

Low Gravity
I’ve also had a few normal dreams where the gravity seemed to be somewhat weaker than normal - like what I imagine Moon gravity would feel like - where I could jump really high and make huge run up jumps that I would glide down from over a long distance. These were REALLY fun - much better than flying, in fact, in my opinion. Give me low gravity any day!

Erratic Sideways Gravity
Oh, and how can I forget all those woozy dreams? Every so often I’ll get a dream, usually where I’m standing on a high cliff or hill of some sort, where gravity goes completely out of control and I feel as if everything has slanted erratically sideways, and that if I take a step in any direction, I’ll float off into the sky forever or crash into something. Usually I end up crawling very slowly along the ground on my belly in these dreams to prevent gravity taking me away, and they make me get very dizzy. I used to get these more often when I was in my teens, but not so much anymore.
