Help needed - life takes over

Hello people, it’s me again.

Once again, life took over and I discontinued my dream practice. I have been missing it and thinking about it a lot - why do I always “forget” this practice and neglect it?

I seriously do not understand but I do need your help.
What can I do to start, continue and never drawback for such a long period?
Do you have the same problem / had the same problem and solved it?
I am a married man with 1 child and about to start my second degree, do you think I can pull through in these conditions?

I can tell you that mostly, I sleep 6-7 hours a day. Going to sleep at 24:00 and waking at 6:30.

I really want to keep this practice so to have ideas for paintings, music and just to live more (in the dream scape that we neglect)

Thank you for your replies

My personal opinion is that 6-7 hours of sleep every night wouldn’t be enough to get those longer dreams at the end of the night. You could limit your main efforts to the weekend, keeping it to just 2 days a week should be easier to keep at it.

I agree with moogle, put your main focus on weekends and holidays. During the week you can try to focus just on DR, that is, do some simple affirmations before bed and try to remember your dreams in the morning or whenever you wake up in the middle of the night. I personally have had LD’s on nights like these, but they are much harder to get. Good luck!

It could also help to have dreaming in the back of your mind or on your mind. Start a simple, performing an RC you can do in public like checking your hands, rubbing them together, and/or reading signs, looking away, and reading it again to see if the text changes any. Gradually work you way back into things. I’m sure it’ll help somewhat to think about dream goals or dreaming in general to help spark a thought that’ll be useful later when it returns to you in a dream.

I found a fantastic app on my phone that makes a jingling sound every now and then. Whenever I hear that sound I do a quick RC. I was actually amazed how many programs there are for lucid dreaming on the app store (many of them free). It has definitely increased my dreaming capacity, recall and overall awareness. I’ve also restarted my DJ and to begin with I couldn’t remember a thing so what I did instead was write in it the night before, and just write what I wanted to dream about that night. Worked like a charm!

I have the same problem. Things just get too busy sometimes and I end up forgetting and neglecting practice. But I agree with what the others have said in limiting your practice to the weekend or a couple days a week. I’ve found this to work for me because it means I don’t have to put ALL of my focus into LDing every day of the week, then getting frustrated when things get too hectic.

So yea, I recommend setting a couple days aside specifically for LD practice. If your schedule varies quite a bit though, then you could aim to just set aside any one, two, however many days of the week for practice.
