How do I convince myself im capable of Lucid dreaming?

So the thing is everyone’s telling me I have to not be discouraged and KNOW im capable of a lucid dream and my question is how?

i mean i really try telling myself im capable and I will have one but its like im lying to myself
and really im thinking maybe its not going to happen for me like EVER or im not capable

ive tried taking breaks and it doesn’t work

How can I truly convince myself that I will have a lucid dream?

It looks like to me in you profile that you have had 3 lucid dreams, ne?

Self-evident. I have the same problem, I must admit. But then I think about the LDs I have had - a few of them even on purpose - and, well, it’s really a matter of consistency, patience, and motivation. Not to sound like a tired guidance counselor.

What I’m saying is: if you’ve had 3 already, then your chances are extremely well for having more in the future. (Probably not much help, huh? The sunconscious is a tricky bugger… Try something to counter-trick it into turning over consciousness to you. Lucid living, RCs, etc.)

Sorry I can’t be much help. I’m a bit “out of the zone” as of now.

i’m sorry, is that an issue? it’s only an issue if you make an issue out of it! if you know what i mean. seriously: motivation will only influence you if you ackowledge motivation as an influence. if you don’t care either way, and attempt LDing unpretentiously, for leisure, you’ll nail it just as well.

sure: almost everyone in this forum will say otherwise. but try telling your friends about lucid dreaming and giving them a few pointers. they’ll feel no pressure. they’ll try. i’ll be surprised (to say the least) if none of them gets lucid by the end of the month.

practise creative dreaming in general. work on your recall and on other aspects of dreaming. bring your dreams to your waking life, make a point to talk about them every once in a while, breathe them, play with incubation and whatnot. you’ll master lucid dreaming way faster if you don’t actually frame it as a challenge, as a quest.

I wanted to ask a similar question (and I apologise if this is hi-jacking your topic), but it seems like another important factor is being excited about the prospect of Lucid Dreaming. When you haven’t had an LD in a while (or at all) it can be easy to get frustrated instead of excited.

Does anyone have any tips on ways they get themselves excited? Ways to turn that frustration into anticipation?

First thing to emphasize here is that you can have LD’s and you can have them at will. If you ever find yourself telling yourself the opposite, stop thinking or change the subject. Dreaming is all in your head, if you convince yourself you can’t then you won’t.

That said, the how of the above IS the difficult part, however stopping negative thought ought not be to difficult. As far as truly believing the positive that will come through optimism and practice. Practice is pretty much essential for being able to LD, because without it its darn near impossible to convince yourself that you can LD at will, I haven’t run into anybody that internally believes/accepts that (it is true though) without having worked to attain that level. Remember lucid dreaming is a skill, and like any other skill it takes time, effort, and practice to improve. No one ever went out in a month and became able to bat .300 against a major league pitcher.

If you get to the point where you have lost motivation or you can’t keep negative “I can’t do this” thoughts out of your head, you need to break for at least a week if not more. Don’t come back until the feeling of frustration/failure is gone and your fully motivated to try again. If your frustrated or un-motivated you probably won’t have any LD’s which will increase your negatice thoughts, its a viscious, self destructive cycle.

A final note, learning to LD consistently is probably going to take time. It took LaBerge over four years - granted he had to develop his own techniques which probably took quite a portion of that time - to be ale to LD at will. In my case it took several months just to be able to LD on a regular basis (once or twice per week) and this was with a monumental effort, like 5,6 hours a day of “practice”.

One final note, I would recommend you check out/buy a copy of EWLD and look at some of the memory/supplemental excersises in there as those can be practiced during the day and can help your intention and other important LD related factors.

You’ve had 3 and you can have more.

No need to worry about not being able to lucid dream, as far as I know, every human (And perhaps some other intelligent creatures? :content: ) has the ability to lucid dream. You can lucid dream. It may take some work to be able to get them frequently, but you can get them.

Good luck.

just for information, cats can have OBEs O_O

Autosuggestion

How is this known, I’m just curious as to how one tests for OBE in something that can’t relate the experience.
