How do you set out your dream journal?

Hi, this is my first post on this forum I had 2 lucid dreams a while back so I want to start up and actually practice the skill, because they are awesome  . Anyway so I want to start up a dream journal but I am not quite sure how you write the extracts like a story or just details.
Example 1 story:
I was crossing the bridge in to a fiery environment when I saw a demonic figure about half a mile away and drew a shiny silver sword from my side and ran towards the beast…

Example 2 details:
In the dream I was crossing a bridge and there was a environment on the other side that looked like a volcano and a demon which was red was standing half a mile away I took out a sword which was silver and went towards the beast…

What do you think is a better way to write entries in a dream journal?

The more detailed your dream is the better. Sometimes I’m way too tired/lazy for that, so I just write keywords.

Thanks, but do you write your dreams as story’s most the time, I am normally very awake as soon as I wake up so I have lots of energy to write a entrie. Also I like to write stories so do think setting them out as story’s is a better way.

I’d say the story one that you had written as an example, as it seems to give a clearer image. The only thing I would change (personally) is the past tense to present tense, just because it’s me.

Thanks, I also believe that I should do it in the present tense because it gives you more of a feel for the dream when reading the entrie.

You should pick what is most comfortable and natural for you. A dream journal is mostly for yourself so you better make it easy to write and use for yourself .

I agree with this. Even though it’s normally suggested to write in present tense, I guess it helps get your mind back in the dream as if it were happening. As someone said above, the more detail you can record the better, that will make your DR increase greatly. I type out my DJ here on ld4all, which is less boring than writing on paper

I’ve heard that its adviced to write your dream in present tense (also, not as a story of the past, but something that you experience right now). It is said to increase your dream recall. However, I myself write in the past tense - that’s simply my habit of writing stuff
