I have sleeping patterns that would kill the average human being… sometimes I sleep normally, get up at around 7 to go to school…sometimes i don’t sleep at all, sometimes on weekends i don’t sleep until 5 in the morning and then sleep until noon…sometimes I go to bed around 7 at night and get up at 2…and everything in between…and usually it’s never the same two nights in a row.
I’m wondering…physically, how much sleep does a person need every day, on average? 6 hours? 7? and how long can a person healthily go without sleep? sometimes i’ll go for 2 or 3 days without any sleep at all and I usually feel pretty good at the end, not like i’m going to die or anything…i just sleep for a really long time afterwards…is that bad for me?
I’ve also heard some types of meditation can partially replace sleep, and take a lot less time…this true? and what are they called?
There is a difference between the amount of sleep required to stay alive, and what is necessary to perform well during the day.
I usually get anywhere between 6 and 7 hours sleep on a wekeday, and upwards of 8 or 9 on a weekend. The hours are pretty much constant, however. I sleep from midnight to 7am on weekdays (I work full time which helps develop a routine) and usually from 4 or 5am until 1 or 2pm on weekends.
Admittedly, I usually feel pretty tired for 2 or 3 hours after I wake up on a weekday. This I assume is because people SHOULD get more than 6/7 hours sleep each night. It’s not necessary to live heathily, but you just generally feel tired for the entire day.
I’d love to get 8 hours sleep every night, but recently I’ve just had too much to do. Well, I should say too much that I wanted to do, as it’s not really important work-related stuff.
Weekends are great though. If it wern’t for my parents, I’d probably be sleeping even later than I already do. I know it’s not how it works, but I tend to think that oversleeping on the weekend makes up for the lack of sleep I get during the week.
wow, i tried really seriously stay awake once, and after 42 hours i finally fell asleep… i think i sleep a lot, normally like 8 hours every night, exept at weekends i can sleep much more… and i take naps during the day, but still i’m tired…

8 and a half hours of sleep is usually enough for me.
One thing I’ve noticed is that unless I go to sleep at midnight or earlier, I will be tired the next day regardless of the number of hours slept. Why is this?
I think its personal thing.You need that much sleep as you need.If you feel fine after 6 hrs than its ok.Some other ppl might need more(like me-12:).Just dont go to low extremes and you`ll be fine:)
