I was just curious as to how often I should do a Reality Check, during my waking hours? I’ve heard people say there is such a thing as doing it too much and wanted to ask some of the more learned members.
Thanks.

I don’t do many RC’s throughout the day but, when I did the most imporant thing I learned was that a RC is not just the action.
In my opinion there’s no such thing as too many RC’s, but you have to be careful not to get into a routine. Each and everytime you do a RC you have to really test your reality and ask yourself “is this a dream?”. If you end up doing your RC’s without paying much attention they might fail you when you do one in a dream.
Sorry, I didn’t answer your question “how often”. I’m not really sure (I should get back at doing RC’s). maybe one every 15 minutes? half an hour? I don’t know… do as many as you feel confortable with
Mattias is right: never ever let RCs become routine. You must question your reality and focus when doing them.
I’d say try to RC whenever you see something that is common in your dreams. Otherwise, I’d do them at least three times an hour.
I got this from the Lucidity Institute site. When you do RCs, besides questioning yourself whenever you’re dreaming, you can also visualize yourself being in a dream. Use all your senses. What you see, hear, smell, feel. Try to imagine discovering some inconsistensis, like you’re suddenly floating. Imagine as vividly as possible. The idea is not to do RC for the sake of doing, but to question and realize whether or not your’re dreaming because what you do during the day will carry down to your dreams. Hope this helps. You can check out the LD FAQ in the Lucidity website.
So how do you remember to do reality checks without making them routine? I have an awefull memory for things like this and remembering to do RCs that actually mean something (like when something weird happens in RL) is really hard for me.
At first I used to write ‘RC’ on my wrist to remember it. Then, after a couple of days I got used to it so I didn’t need it anymore.
It worked for me, but maybe not for others. I’m a wierd person
I also have awefull memory when it comes to do RC’s seriously, 90% of my RC’s are done in dream! usually only to be sure I’m dreaming… The thing is, if you do 2 RC’s a day or if you do 500, that everyone counts and you do it with attention. If you have trouble remembering to do a RC it’s not that bad… but make the ones you do count!
(I myself find it hard to believe that people that do increadible amounts of RC’s don’t, at least ocasionaly, do them without the proper attention… )
