How to stay calm during SP ?

I had never experienced SP until yesterday . I went to bed early and slept for 4,5 hours until I woke up . I wrote down my dream and went back to bed . I had never tried to WILD with WBTB . I always did it when I first went to bed and I always failed altough I spent almost 2 hours every day to get a WILD . I just got no SP or HI and my mind was totally awake . So yesterday after I had wrote down my dream i went back to bed and started counting numbers . time passed by really quickly and my mind was totally consentrated on counting . After 30 minutes of counting I suddenly felt like my body wanted to shake . It made one sudden move and became calm again . After 2 minutes it repeated and I totally woke up because it felt impossible to stay calm and fall asleep . I went out of bed and spent an hour or so watching TV . After that I fell asleep . Today I did the same thing . i woke up in the middle of the night , spent a few minutes thinking about my dream ( which I couldnt remember ) and started counting numbers . After 30 minutes when I was totally calm I heard someone saying something from my sisters room . I totally freaked out altough I knew it was SP . My brain understood but my body didnt . My body started acting like crasy - my heart beated faster than it ever had beaten , my breathing was so strong and fast that I thought my kungs would explode . And my body felt like I was full of air like a balloon . Altough my mind was calm my body overreacted and i woke up . How can i make my body calm down that it wouldn`t wake me up again ?

Thank you !

I don’t think you can calm down your body. I think its just SP. So next time it happens, just go with the flow, and relax no matter how scary it gets.

Well , I know my bodys not shaking for real but my mind really believes it is and wakes me up immediately . I should make myself relaxed and think about LD-ing but if my heart beats like crayzy Ill explode before I get somewhere with my SP

I would research thouroughly what other people experience with sleep paralysis, so that as everything happens, it doesn’t seem odd, but instead you can just recognise the sensation as something you’ve read about. That’s what kept me calm, because I wasn’t thinking “What the hell is happening to me?”, but instead “Vibrations, yes that is expected.”

All the sympoms you’ve described are normal. The heart feels like it’s beating faster, blood seems to be rushing to the head, the body feels like it is vibrating, things feel quite intense, but this will only continue for a very shorty while longer. Things seem to swell, with the addition of whistling, boiling and roaring sounds, and then it should be over, and you will be in your head. Just count through it.

I always end up twitching which I think ruins it… :meh:

That happens to me most of the time, just a sudden twitch now and then; I don’t know how to stop that.

When I try WILD, I normally get the twitches before the whole increased heart rate, vibration, and falling sensation part, but don’t worry, I’m pretty sure its the not spasms that are thwarting your chances at entering a lucid dream. I find that reminding myself that I’m in no danger, and that I am going through the normal process of HH helps calm me down. Once your calm, it’s actually pretty interesting to just observe  .

This, of course, is just my personal experience, and it might not work for everyone.

I have had 1 SP, and It felt really good for me. I guess I can call myself lucky. It started from my hand, my hand went totally numb and I started to feel it would be very uncomfortable, on the same with heavy vibrations. Then it evolved bigger, but I didn’t really panic. The vibrations were in my opinion fun. At least that’s what I kept telling myself.

My heartrate went up, but I kept saying that this is a normal prochedure of my body, and It’s not dangerous.

When I started to feel like spinning on my own axis, I also thought it was fun.

Maybe you should start thinking like: “Yay! This doesn’t feel so bad. I can take this. Hey! This is actually pretty funny!” Then it won’t feel so bad, at least for me.

Good luck, anyways!

Seconded MaximumLD. The first time SP happened to me, I found it fun. But it’d only happened like 3 or 4 times. Wish it has more

When I get an SP i basically start trying to imagine a scene or an image. I just focus on it and eventually I enter a dream everytime. The first time I had an SP I got a little too excited and woke up, but I just relax and focus on the image and without fail you will enter a dream.
