How to STAY STILL during WILD?

I have been trying to WILD, but I find that I cannot stay still to save my life. I have this uncontrollable urge to move. It’s like I have restless legs syndrome. But then if I just go to sleep without doing WILD, I’m don’t feel the need to move. What the hell? What do you do to relax and not have this urge? :help:

You can always stretch before you try WILDing because your muscles could possible be tight and uncomfortable. Also this uncomfortable feeling could actually mean your body will fall asleep soon. Your body tests your mind to see if you are sleeping and one of the things it does is makes you feel the need to roll over. If you do move, it proves that you are still awake, and if you dont move it shows that you are in fact asleep. Just try to ignore the urge to move and hopefully you will have a successful WILD :good:

Maybe the effort of keeping yourself conscious is becoming physical, like how some people frown or squint when they’re concentrating. Shaking out the tension beforehand, or stretching like R-D-C suggested, could help a lot.

You know, WILD is not the easiest of techniques, you could try something easier, at least until you become more experienced.

As for your problem, assume a comfortable sleeping position, to discourage the urge to move, and learn techniques (such as breathing), to help you get into a relaxed state.

If you’re not disciplined/dedicated enough to stay still, then maybe WILD is not for you.

WILD is always easier when combined with the WBTB technique, anyway. You may want to give that a go.

It’s possible that you may be experiencing a strong roll over signal. one of the ways your body knows when it’s time to fall asleep is by sending the legs or chest a “roll over” signal. if your mind is asleep, then you will resist the urge to roll over. For some people, this signal can be painful. If you resist the urge, then it’s likely that you will move into the next stage of your WILD. stretching may also help. Here’s a video that may help you:

Aside from the ‘‘roll over signal’’, you may feel the urge to move after walking or exercising too much.

It happens to me sometimes…oh, it’s so annoying, you can’t sit still on the couch, you constantly have to move around and swing your legs.

Try to do a muscle exercise, take deep breaths and relax.
But yes, it might be the roll over signal. If you can resist it, then you will probably earn a worthy reward

That’s exactly what I wanted to say. That urge to move is the so called “Roll over signal”, when the body checks on the mind if it has allready fallen asleep. IF you manage to resist this urge for not a quite long time you will enter your dream conciously and have a LD. Try to resist it. IF you can’t resist it you must do the following:

You must do some sport and use up all the energy your body has stored during the day. Once that energy is used up by pracitcing some soprt (tennis, football, jogging etc.) that urge to move will be very little or there will be no more urge. Why ? Because when the body sends the “roll over signal” it uses much energy. Now if you have used almost all of the energy your body won’t have enough to make the roll over signal and will thus shut down rewarding you with a nice LD :content: - just remember to stay awake and daydream and not remind yourself of your body trying to fall asleep.

Good luck !

PS: This was my 100 post :woo: !

You all rock! Great answers! I will def check out that vid, trophycase. And congrats to you, Don Anonymus!!!

I actually had a pretty odd experience while attempting WILD once when I suddenly had a huge spasm for no reason. No impulse, no warning, my body just suddenly spasmed for a second. Kind of startled me.

This isn’t the same as what LDgirl was talking about. That’s one of those jerks I always forget the name… :shy: I’ve had small ones, where my hand or leg jerks, but I’ve also had these huge spasms, they are indeed freaky. It almost feels like I was struck by lightning!

The roll over signal can becomes REALLY horrible sometimes, for some people. I’ve never been able to resist it for long  So I try to WILD on my side, which I find more comfortable, and have never gotten the signal like that. Although I tend to fall asleep on my side  (although for WILD you have to fall asleep, so it’s just a matter of practice…)

There have been times where I have tried to go to sleep on my side. My hand would be resting in front of my face on my pillow, then I would get a spasm too and actually SMACK myself in the face!!! LMFAO THAT is startling! :content:

I really hate the roll over signal, it’s like my body is telling me that if I roll over, I’ll be comfortable and if I don’t it’s the worst feeling ever. It doesn’t help that when I do roll over it actually does feels good, encouraging me to do it the next time I try WILD.
