I don’t know if there’s a topic like this already, and I’m sorry if there is…
Anyway, I’ve been wondering about one thing… I have sleep paralyses quite often, and as you probably know, hallucinations are a part of them. Now, sleep paralyses are not a problem for me. I’ve learned to cope with them. But there’s one thing: when I try WILD method, how can I tell if the hallucinations I get are hypnagogic or a part of sleep paralysis? Or are they the same? I would be grateful if someone could help me, this has been bothering me for quite some time.
They are the same. The hallucinations you experience when in sleep paralysis are hypnagogic hallucinations. You don’t actually need to experience sleep paralysis to WILD, but it’s an advantage!
Ah, okay. I wished they would be two different things, since sleep paralyses are never very pleasant and it’s hard not to try to wake up when it happens… But now that I know they are the same, I think I can handle it. Thanks!
You can try to do what I do when I sense that I’m falling into sleep paralysis (I don’t experience it that often, though). I visualize a scene that I want to enter lucidly. I like to dream of beaches, so one scene I sometimes visualize is a beautiful, white beach. I might also imagine myself walking, and feeling the sand under my feet. I ignore my real body and the sensations that come with sleep paralysis. The scene then slowly materializes, and I enter a WILD without any strange sensations or unpleasant hallucinations.
