My alarm clock rarely wakes me up, so it’s hard for me to do a proper WILD or WBTB. The only way I might be able to do those things would be if I automatically woke up after REM and actually gained enough conscious thought to focus on dreaming, or if I had to wake up to go to the bathroom or something (which I never really do).
My alarm is loud enough for my mom to hear it in the next room, and it’s right next to my head, but it still doesn’t wake me up. It doesn’t have radio, it’s just beeping. How can I wake myself up at a certain time without the alarm clock?
Well, you can try auto suggestion telling yourself what time to wake up.
Or try drinking alot of water or something so you have to get up to go to the bathroom. Hope that helps
Tell your mom to pop in and poke you with a stick a few times and nothing more, so you dont get cranky and you can simply roll over and try WBTB. also just for a little tip, it seems like its alot easier to accomplish WBTB if when awaking, you dont move and just think about dreaming right when you open your eyes, but ive been practicing this for quite a while and havent done it yet soo…
Goodluck!
Well, I heard about this alarm clock called the sonic boom or something, and what it is, is that its 3x louder then a normal alarm clock, and extreamly vibrates the mattress to wake you up. But I assume it would hinder dream recall. And it costs 250$…
If sound doesn’t work then maybe something else will. I always use my cellphone as a soundless alarm clock, first I turn on the vibration thing and turn off the sound. When the alarm goes off it simply starts to vibrate and I always keep it next to or under my pillow and so far it’s always woken me up. Worth a try perhaps if your cellphone has the right functions.
I believe the problem is that you wake up and turn the alarm off and go back to sleep and next time you wake up you don’t remember a thing.
The solution is to put the alarm far from the bed so that you have to get up and really wake up to turn it off.
Good Luck!
Well, if I do actually get up and turn the alarm clock off, then I really don’t remember it, because I don’t think I remember EVER actually using the snooze button. Even when it did used to wake me up, I would still just let it keep going until it stopped, I never used snooze. (The alarm only beeps for a minute or two before it turns itself off.) I don’t have money to buy a new one, and my parents can’t wake me up because they’re both in bed at the time that I have to wake up for WBTB. Getting up to go to the bathroom would work, but really I can’t control when I have to go to the bathroom even if I drink water before bed. However, occasionally I wake up with stomachaches, although not often. This happened a couple nights ago, so I had a chance to try WILD with accidental WBTB but apparently that didn’t work. I tried a form of autosuggestion, and starting last night, I’m also trying to use the “writing lines” technique to wake up (I often to go bed right after writing “I will have a lucid dream tonight” over and over, but I’m going to start using “I will wake up at [insert time here]”.) I don’t have a cell phone, so I can’t do that either.
The same prob. had i a few nights before. I set my alarm clock and It didnt wake me up. (or i thought it didnt wake me up) Sometimes you wake up and slep on without remebering that you wake up (in this state i went one time to the toilett^^) If I were you I would go on, and i would place it a bit away from you (so that you MUST stand up for make it out) and if you have a handy as alarm i would make the nap-function. That means if the handy hasnt been made out for a minute or how long hte alarm tone goes it will automatically repeat in 5 minutes or so (most you can set the time) and if you have ev. 5 minutes the same loud sound it WILL wake you up.
Note:
You must have a deep sleep. Thats good bec. i read one times at Wikipedia that you can use it for a LD. You must slep in with the thought that you will wake up that night. And if you have a deep sleep you will have a FA. Then you can do a RC (important).
That still won’t really work, because my alarm clock basically has one feature: alarm. xD It’s hard to use in the first place, and I don’t think it’s possible to set the alarm, make it come back on, or anything…and placing it far away from my bed will only make it worse, because then I would have an even harder time of hearing it, and it totally wouldn’t be worth getting up to turn it off anyway–like I said, I never press the snooze button (unless somehow I do and then don’t remember) so it would help if I had something other than just my alarm to wake me up. If I could have a louder one, I’d get that, but I don’t really have any money. I guess I could ask for one for my birthday, but that’s not for a while.
I have that problem too. I don’t use an alarm clock because it makes too much noise and would wake up my parents (needless to say, they would not appreciate being woken up at 6am, nor that I do), so I use my watch to beep around that time. It fails to wake me up most of the time, and the few times where it does, I usually instantly fall back asleep.
However, I remember a few times hearing the watch, pressing the button to light it, and reading a time that was not right (like 10am, 3am, etc). So I think sometimes, it may just disturb the sleep just enough to lead to false awakening. Which could, if coupled with a reality check, lead to LD. In the end, it might be useful too not to wake up.
note : the watch is under my bed, and the beep is not very loud (I keep it next to my DJ, a pen and a flashlight )
