Last night I had 5 very vivid dreams that I remember. In 2 of them I did “reality checks”, but didn’t get the lucidity click
The 1st dream was at the beginning of the night, I think it was almost like a false awakening: I was lying in my bed, exactly as I’d be if I was going to sleep, and then saw a ghost pass outside my window (my bed is right next to my window). I got very scared but then in my head I thought “don’t be scared, you’re just dreaming. You know how I know you’re dreaming? Because your courtains are open and you close your courtains to sleep”. It was very weird to have that thought hah but then I just opened my eyes, I felt like I had to check I actually had my courtains closed. I did and then just closed my eyes and kept sleeping (I actually remembered about this later in the day, not right after I woke up).
The other RC was in the last dream I recall before waking up; when I noticed a dream sign I looked at my hands (as I usually do when I encounter such dream sign in ‘waking life’) and they were so tiny and creepy! But I didn’t get the click that something wasn’t right, i only noticed it when I woke up.
I’m getting reaaally frustrated about this RC’s or “lucidity chances” not working… what am I doing wrong?
Sounds like you were really close Try doing RCs in real life a little more seriously. I mean don’t half bid it “really take notice of your hands ect…” so once you mimic that in a dream, you may pay more attention to the differences.
The first time I experienced an LD was when I was 13. My buddy came over and told me about this book he had on lucid dreaming, and one of the RC was to look at your hands and really ask your self if you are dreaming. Well when I was younger I seemed to believe things easier, so when I performed that RC during the day I actually convinced my self that I was dreaming, “I really tested that question in the mindset that I was already dreaming”
and sure enough the next night I see my hands in front of my face and as serious as I tested that question during the day, I tested right then and there and I realized that I was actually dreaming. It worked. Of course it scared the ^%$# out of me…lol but it worked.
The point is that if you are going to do an RC during the day without full attention of what it is you are testing, the same will fallow in a dream.
If you fully and absolutely test the question during the day, once it happens in a dream you WILL have to answer yourself. Which of course will be “Holy crap I am dreaming! ”
If these “clicks” don’t happen, it simply means that you are not doing RC’s the right way. The method might be good, but you need to be in the right focus of mind. Don’t do RC’s IRL as if you already knew that they would fail. Try to really believe that it is, in fact, a dream. Don’t dismiss this thought when doing RC’s. Expect them to work. Be wery aware when you do RC’s, don’t do them without any thought.
Your expectations in your dreams reflect your expectations while you are awake.
If you do RC’s mindlessly then you will do them mindlessly in your dreams as well.
Like others have said, try to actually believe that you may be dreaming.
An alternative is also to develop a great feel for what real life is like, so that you can more easily tell when you are in a dream since everything will suddenly feel more alien and unfamiliar than normal.
Instead of RC’s being simply “look at hands”, do them more as a quick process. Something like “Am I dreaming? > look at hands > are they weird? > what does that mean? > Am I dreaming??”. I just say this as it seems you saw your hands were weird but you couldn’t make any conclusions after that, so I suggest getting used to the making conclusion part
Plus, these things can take some time, some trial and error. Perhaps after a few tiny creepy hands you’ll realize it’s a dream! Maybe next time you’ll think about the last time you saw your hands looking funny like that and remember that you got mad that time for not realizing it was a dream…
