i seriously need help

im so frustrated now. i just tried out the WILD technique. i literaly was just in bed comfortable, had my eyes closed for about exactly 40 minutes and i was counting in my head " 1 im dreaming… 2 im dreaming… 3 im dreaming" and i didnt fall asleep at all, all that did for me was make my eyes feel weird and uncomfortable + my body/muscles were so relaxed during, that, i dont know i just felt weird.
so i counted up to 500, that took 40 minutes.
after 500 i stopped and decided to go on here because somethings wrong.
counting to 500 was like hell, it felt like i was laying in bed counting in my head for soo many hours, yet it was only a small 40 minutes.
someone please help me, is this the right techinque for me, am i doing it wrong or what technique should i use??

ur not supposed to just count up to 500 and then magically attain lucidity. You have to try to go to sleep and you count so that you dont let your mind wander. Also, just because you counted to 500 doesnt mean you should stop, just keep going, or even start over, all that matters is keeping ur mind focused on one thing but not so focused it keeps you awake.

Patience is a virtue.

^ omg thats like my whole 5 line paragraph summed up in 4 words! why couldnt i do that? :grrr:

Personally when I’m trying WILD I prefer not to use the counting method. It is an effective method for some people, but I find the prospect of laying still counting uninviting; I prefer to use visualization. As one_winged_angel said, WILD isn’t about the counting. All the counting does is keep you aware. You can imagine scenes in your mind or picture things instead to acheive the same thing. You could also try things such as moving your fingers, (FILD) to stay aware.
