Ive noticed sence Ive been practcing LDing over the past two, and a half years. I have had less bouts with depression. I still get depressed, but it dosnt seem to last that long, and it seems to be becoming less, and less. Are there any links to LDing helping with some forms mental illnesses? I could easily see how it could help. Maybie doctors should start telling patiants about this wonderful art.
I don’t know how LD affects our mood (or helps “overcome” depression"), since I only had 1 or 1.5 LDs…
But this morning, I woke up in the very mood I wa in my last dream. In that dream, I was tired and in a bad mood.
So I was wondering if been lucid could have modify my “waking mood”.
I heard a quote from somewhere saying… “The key to happiness is balancing your dream life, and waking life” I think it might very well be true. Rather its LDing, or just simply keeping a dream journal. I think there importent for living a wholsome life.
Did you read “Exploring the world of lucid dreaming” ?
There are two chapters that might be related to your topic: “Rehearsal for Living” and “The Healing Dream”.
I didn’t get to those chapters yet but I am pretty sure that second one will explain how to “heal/improve” your mind, so mental illnesses as well, I guess.
I had that book, and I lost it when moving, so Ill have to buy it again. I only read about 5 chapters. I will say this. It feels great to be freed from this terribale beast of depression. You cant put it in words how bad it makes you feel. I feel I owe alot of thanks to this forum not only did it teach me how to LD, you guys were allways there when I needed to talk to someone. This forum is a Godsend.
It is possible that it isn’t the LDing itself but the supportive LD4all community that has helped
I know it harms schizos, but it should help with depression.
Another perhaps: Lucid Dreaming practises involve meditations wether or not you call them that and to a greater extent relaxation techniques. Wich both are beneficial for mental balance.
Anyway, you are an example for those who fear that Lucid Dreaming would somehow interfere with dreams doing their job to work out psychological issues. They can now relax.
Very possible
This athmosphere is just so great
Having great experiences at night can really influence one’s mood!
I did some googling a week ago for a short representation on LDing.
I found that LDing is used in psychotherapie, so far mainly for treatmend of post-traumatic stress and the nightmares caused by it. That’s not even knew - articels on that are around from the 80ies.
The reports are basically that LDing helps against the nightmares, but also lessens symptoms like anxiety in waking life. It isn’t entirely random LDing, though. The aim is to wait for whatever is chasing/threatening the dreamer and ask it why it’s there and what it wants. (The article is here: findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m … 82747/pg_1 , if you’d like to read it.)
So yes, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if LDing can help against depression. I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better. Good luck!
It’s very possible that the cause of your depression is neurological. Your brain isn’t producing enough neurotransmitters, which is inhibiting certain neurons and making you depressed. Lucid dreaming could make your brain produce more of said neurotransmitters, thus fixing the chemical imbalance causing depression.
Just a theory, anyway.
nice theory
Hi Nullashton,
from what I remember from a seminary on brain/neurobiology, what you describe are the chemical symptoms of depression. The problem is, it’s difficult to say whether it’s a symptom or a cause - depression could be caused by something else (stress, wrong medication, …) and then the chemical imbalance follows, or the lack of neurotransmitters is what causes the depression.
Kind of a hen-egg problem.
