I want to get back on track for Lucid Dreaming

Well, let me start off by saying that I was introduced to lucid dreaming almost 3 years ago now and I was very eager to try it. Since then, I have only had maybe 3 true lucid dreams but even these were not controlled very well- I’m really just lazy as all get out. So, I knew all about it, I had studied many techniques but never really put anything past the “speculation” stage wondering whether it would be worth it to actually learn to lucid dream at will every night (this is my ultimate goal), I can be very focused if I want to, but previously I didn’t feel as if I was really ready to do it, that might sound silly since it’s such a great thing to experience, but I truly believe when delving into something as deep as this you have to take your time and you will know when you’re ready. Well, I am ready but I just need some sort of catalyst to get me on track.

I lead a very stress-free life, even with my exams coming up I’m not too stressed =P lol, so stress isn’t an issue, but I have one question:

Should I really keep a dream journal? This seems to be the only thing that I never really took the time to do, I never viewed it as overly important. I have a book now, so it would be easier to keep one, and I would definitely start if it would help me lucid dream.

Thanks for all the help!

EDIT: I’d have to say my favorite method for inducing lucidity would probably be WILD, since I enjoy going into trance like states before going into a sleep/dream state. (I tend to do it in math class quite often) However, and of the lucid dreams I have had were accidental and MILD.

Hey there!

To get motivated you might want to look in the dream journal section of the forums, specially the “My best LD’s” (or whatever it’s called). There are some pretty amazing things there!

A DJ is very useful, but I beleive it’s possible to get good at LD’ing without one, specially with WILD… I recommend you give it a try, when I did I found it much more fun than I thought it would be.

Awesome, thanks for the advice! I think I will start keeping a DJ, and I definitely will check that topic out.

I’ve been in the same situation as you a few times, and what usually works for me is to set a method for what I do with my dream journal and stick to it.
For example, I now divide the entries into weeks and identify the major dreamsigns for each week. This helps me know when to do RC’s in real life.

DJ’s are definitely indispensable, and if nothing else help convince your subconscious that you’re serious about LD’ing.

DJ’s are important but if you don’t like writing out full dreams then just write keywords about the scene what happened and go back later when write it out. I love my dream journal I look back at old dreams and laugh and even get inspiration to lucid dream.

There have been a few good reasons suggested already about why a DJ might be useful to you, another one I don’t think has been mentioned yet is that it will improve your recall. If you improve your recall and enjoy working with your dreams, it will be easier to stay with dreaming. It’s counter-productive to disregard everything but LDs. Normal dreams can be interesting too, and if you take the time to enjoy them, dreaming will be on your mind more. (You won’t have to ‘force’ it to be either.) This will then increase your chances of getting a Lucid dream, and hopefully be a source of enjoyment.

It will also help you in the future since you will remember your lucid dreams better when you have them. Further increasing your own motivation and enjoyment of LDing.

DJ is really helpfull but surely not indispensable. Several of good dreamers know nothing about DJ-s.

The most imortant is that you have desire to have LD-s.
