I was just wondering that if shared dreaming actually exists then it can be that a lucid dreamer can go into another person’s dream, lets say in a friend’s dream, and helped them get lucid by reminding them that they are dreaming.
so what do you say?
Sorry to burst your bubble, but it probably doesn’t. If there could be some kind of connection between the two brains, I can’t see if it would work.
I would still keep it labeled under “maybe possible” because more and more researchers on consciousness are still not convinced that consciousness is only attached to a body. If consciousness could exist outside the body then this should be possible as many other things…
Weird because when I was younger me and my brother had the same exact dream and when we woke up we told each other the exact details about the dream. We were both together on top of this boat and it was raining in the sea.
Well there are a lot of stories out there very like yours but the question is can it be done again and can it be proved. If can then by definition is real/possible. There is one scientist that described why such topics aren’t yet proved or disproved. The science committee is consists of a very small number of people compared to all the scientist out there of course and they decide of course to which field of science funding goes. So such things that we are discussing here are under the taboo or not possible and there are not a lot of funding directed in that way…
So even though there is some kind of interest there is not enough of the interest…
Saqib_hassan96, in my experience, shared dreaming is possible. And yes, a lucid dreamer could awaken another person within a dream, but for “a price” - his or her own energy. Besides, the person you are trying to make lucid would have to have enough experience with (lucid) dreaming not to wake up for real because of shock.
Nice example, AJ.
Oh dear god I just hope megan fox knows how to lucid dream!
Hey nighteagle, if you’ve actually experienced it then you can help some of the newbies here, like me, who’ve had a few LDs. I’ve seen several people here who wish to have an LD after 2 or 4 LDs.
God, there needs to be an Xbox Live for Lucid dreaming. Something that would- BRAIN BLAST! Connect the brains by finetuning the brain patterns while both people or more are asleep. Does anybody watch FRINGE here? Best Sci-fi show of my life!
They breached this topic in season 1! It took a lot of LSD… but Olivia wasn’t exaclty skilled with any lucid techniques at the time. Here a good question, where are the kinetic powers!?
Yeah I’m watching Fringe. It really is awesome. There were a few episodes where they sync they brain waves and they had a SD…
Oh and I just love the use of LSD in first season, it awesome. It reminded me of the stories when LSD become known and popular in America in 60’s and 70’s
Would be awesome…
Unfortunately, isn’t even theoretically possible.
Make a research on Dr. Stuart Hameroff…
Or Walter Bishop!
True that!
I don’t remember all the specific details, but when I was young, someone was talking to me about dimensions, and subconsciousness. Why it was brought up, or why i was involved in this conversation, i truely do not remember. All I really remember, is that there are layers - which I want to call dimensions, but I’m not sure that’s the right term, of the subconsciousness. I remember that one layer, near the bottom was something… something that was to be avoided, a place discouraging our consciousness to travel deeper. But under that layer, is a layer where all our subconsciousness are linked together in network.
Now I’m not making claims that this is true, and i don’t have any research about it, I’m just remembering something I was told when I was really little…
They said that traveling through that barrier was possible, but only by people with strong enough willpower, or something… Most people who travel there without the strength can end in insanity. Schizophrenia, delusions, morale shifts, etc… But not many people are able to get there.
Anyway, I read a post about this topic earlier, and it didn’t come to mind at the time.
If its true that the sub is linked together in this way, then perhaps it could be possible.
Yeah, sure… Looking at his biography I’ve found this nice gem:
This makes me think why he is a “Dr.” in the first place. Utter nonsense.
And this is just one nonsense theory of his utterly nonsense research on consciousness. He even tried adapting Quantum Physics to Human anatomy???!!!
That is outrageous. And you trust him in the field of shared dreams, where it is more of a belief rather than science.
Not a scientist. Period.
Here’s the full quote:
I personally would like to hear why if this is nonsense and what your own theory is. Because as far as I theorize, he is right.
To me, I think that the nerves in the crytoskeleton PROCESS the information, then use the neurons to transfer signals to the brain.
I would like to be proven wrong though, I do change ideas after all.
Care to qualify that statement?
Personally, I find it ridiculously unlikely, but I don’t see the harm in attempting. If shared dreaming DOES exist, it most likely exists in a form that no one would recognize, such as seeing synchronous events with different forms (kind of like how the hero’s journey appears in different stories). It would be impossible to prove if it existed in that form and totally irrelevant, so that would be just a belief structure. On the other hand, if it does exist in a recognizable form, chances are it’s so rare that it might as well not exist, and that any reports of it could be chalked up to “anecdotal evidence” or even a chance two people independently had the same dream. It definitely doesn’t have a place scientifically either way.
In terms of the anesthesiologist, he’s probably just a quack. There is an interesting question about consciousness in how it comes to be, but the jury’s still out on that.
Well Paulius, if scientists would say that this or that is not possible and that’s the end of the story we would still be in stone age. You have to make a hypothesis and theory and be prepare to be proven wrong or right. It doesn’t make a scientist if you say the right thing to the right group of people. You need to have courage and take a leap of faith in ways that no one else did. That’s what he is actually doing.
And you trust him in the field of shared dreams, where it is more of a belief rather than science.
He’s not talking about SD’s. He is talking about possibility that consciousness can exist outside the body. Which can lead(by my understanding of things) to a SD!
And if he is going to be proved wrong it doesn’t matter. But if we was proved right the things will change as the view points. And that’s what a scientist is, oh and the school…
Oh and primary he’s a anesthesiologist, like I said make a research. Don’t just take out what you don’t like and quote it. Take a look at the bigger picture and have an opened mind…
I personally would like to hear why if this is nonsense and what your own theory is. Because as far as I theorize, he is right.
The leading theory in this field, and a lot simpler one is that neurons function simply as a wire. They do not compute anything.
The chemical reactions involved are pretty simple, it has been studied down to the atomic level:
The electrical impulses travel in the form of charges, caused by ions such as sodium or calcium. Every damn biology text book says that, while microtubules have nothing to do with this.
Microtubules are simple components (that form a part of the cytoskeleton), that are required for keeping the structure of the cell intact, making sure that various substances get transported where they need to be transported, and it also plays a part in cell division. That’s it. No computers, no processors, no consciousness or anything.
I can’t frankly find any good articles from this “scientist”. What I find is the refutations of his articles.
Care to qualify that statement?
That is pretty obvious. For shared dreaming to be possible, humans or, at least their brains must have a way to communicate telepathically, in a wireless way. The brain has been studied in all possible ways. No one has ever found any systems that could do this job.
On an optimistic perspective, talking about dream sharing by using wires, it might actually be possible in a far future. There is lots of research going on how to it. Evidence says that mechanical devices may be connected to neurons (therefore, the brain) and send & receive signals. That might allow shared dreaming, but it would not be a natural way.
