Instant Loss of Lucidity?

Hey guys, this is my first post, but I’ve been reading these forums for a while now and have been practicing lucidity for about the same time.

Just last night I became lucid. It was sort of like a WILD except I was already asleep when it happened. I saw this picture and focused on it for no reason. Then it snapped into focus and I was fully lucid for about a second. Then all of a sudden, everything went black. The dream just completely disappeared in an instant.

When I woke up, I first thought I might have lost the dream because I got too excited when I became lucid, but I have had other lucid dreams that I’ve been too excited in, and they disappeared slowly. The blackness would slowly creep over my vision until I couldn’t see, then the sound would fade out. But in this dream, everything went away so suddenly…

Anyone ever have this experience before or have any ideas on how I could avoid this?

I’ve had this 2 out of three times. Rubbing hands, and shouting “Increase Lucidity” like you REALLY mean it, has worked a treat both times.

Ya, I’ve done that too before in my previous dreams, but I had absolutely no opportunity to even realize I was losing lucidity in this one. Even If I did immediately think to rub my hands, spin around, and stuff, I wouldn’t have even had time to start.

Oh, that’s odd - suppose there’s not too much you can do. I seem to FA every time and don’t notice I’m losing lucidity as a result

Odds are you became very excited upon realization that you were lucid, and your body immediately pumped out a lot of adrenaline. With that going, you could easily wake up within a fraction of a second. Probably the hardest thing to do upon becoming lucid is staying calm enough to remain asleep, happens to everyone. Not much you can really do to avoid it other than trying to practice remaining calm in dreams when you do get the chance and trying again. Good luck to you.
