See, on two recent occasions where I’ve been in a lucid state, (I check my hands. They usually grow additional fingers and are able to be stretched), it’s as though I’m not concious enough to do anything about it. Or at least anything worth doing. I always plan on attempting to fly and do all those awesome things that you do when you’re lucid. But I don’t do any of that stuff. I don’t observe my surroundings to see how real and vivid it is, which I SO want to do. I remember being in the supermarket once and eating a polly waffle, but that’s about it. Anywho, I’m just wondering if I was technically lucid dreaming, even though I don’t think my mind was all there.
I’m new to LD. I’m still kinda freaked out about it, especially the whole SP thing. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Technically, if you realized that you were dreaming while still in the dream it’s a lucid dream. However, it sounds to me like you experienced what I like to call a ‘half-lucid.’ I’m not sure if it’s an actual term, or not.
In a half-lucid, you realize you’re dreaming, but you’re not really able to do anything with it. You can’t control the plot of the dream, the landscape, or even your own actions. It’s almost as if you’re having a dream about having a lucid dream - if that makes any sense…
Oh, yeah. That’s exactly how I’d describe it. It was like I was dreaming about having a lucid dream. I’m not sure about the amount of control I had - if I was thinking straight, perhaps I’d be in my right mind to do something about my surroundings. Anyway, thanks for that.
Lucid dreaming does not mean you can control the dream, it simply means your are aware of it being a dream as it happens.
The control can come with the lucidity, but sometimes when you are new you have to will yourself to have control. I know when I first started to actively lucid dream that I was aware of the dream, but my conscious mind was “sleepy” like having just woken up and still being tired. So although when awake I wanted to try flying, in the dream it just would never occur to me that I wanted to try flying.
How ever, dreaming about having a lucid dream is not a lucid dream at all, it is a False Lucid Dream.
If you are unsure wheather you are having a true lucid dream you could always ask yourself something like “Who am I? Where do I live? What are the names of my family members? What is my phonenumber and how many digits is it?”. If you can answer all of those questions correctly you could be pretty sure you are having a true lucid dream.
Note: Even if you fail the questions it doesn’t mean you are not having a lucid dream, you might simply be having a low lucidity dream- In this case you simply need to tell yourself on and on again that you are dreaming and nothing is real.
I totally agree with you, every time I’ve been lucid, I feel really tired, like I just woke up or are about to fall asleep, I guess just staying lucid would eventually get you to feel awake in the dream, like it does IRL.
