Is it true that everyone can learn how to lucid dream?

Topic + personal thoughts

Everyone dreams, but does that mean that everyone can learn how to lucid dream as well?
I’m wondering because it seems some people have problems with this even after fairly long practice (alhough I’m sure they’re just doing something wrong ).

I have some personal experience in low lucid dreams, although none of them have been “vivid” ones - I had my first one as a kid (or I believe so since I remember that I asked a DC “when will I stop dreaming?” :peek:), and I had a “sort of” lucid dream a few months ago where I thought of lucid dreams and tried to affect my surroundings, and in another dream I could control my own actions and decide where to go and what to do, although I wasn’t actually lucid then.
I also actually had a very exciting experience this last night - I was trying a quite interesting version of WILD, where I counted the clock-ticks from my kitchen clock in my head - I started to become a bit drowsy at 500 seconds, and at that point something very cool happened: I imagined that the clock-ticks changed sound and rhythm, as if they took 1,5 seconds between two ticks and then went on as normal, and I also saw a light get randomly turned on outside (under my closed eyelids), but then I did many reality checks and it turned out I was awake after all.
Still, this excited me and I got my confidence back for a while, and tried the “C-WILD” counting technique again.
I woke up and felt a pleasant “distant” drowsiness, and I hoped that I was in a False Awakening - but nope, the day went on and I never woke up, because I was already awake.
I have made a few WBTB attempts as well, but none of them have really made me truly lucid - they did make my dreams more vivid a few times, but true lucidity still feels far away - despite my previous experiences, I don’t feel I’ve truly “made it” yet.

What do you think about all this?

I believe everyone can LD, but some who’ve been trying for months or years may not be so inclined to believe that. Really, I think it’s just a matter of finding what works for you, and that takes experimentation. People will say “But I’ve tried everything there is!” But have they tried adapting any techniques to themselves? There’s no “right” way to do a technique except what might work for you.

Personally I get a lot of FLDs, but I’ve had my share of LDs as well. Really, for me, I should be focusing on turning my FLDs into LDs, even though I quite love my FLDs as well. I’ve just always had FLDs… lots of them. In a way, you’re lucid, just not thinking about it. For me, I just really need to be more aware, but I hate LL and constant awareness techniques since I’m so lazy. I’m sure they would do wonders, but… I still get results with a DJ, MILD/WBTB, and a goal journal.

Experiment around! Keep looking and working with techniques. I can’t tell you how, but I’m sure you can figure something out. :content:

:uh:
i think everyone can lucid dream, but i’m not sure…

i had my first lucid dream 2 days after i discovered LD’s, without even trying it
(but after that no LD for almost a month) .
i think it’s just a matter of how motivated you are and if you use a technique that works with you

i feel exactly the same, since my LD’s wasn’t very vivid till now, and most times they was just 10-20 seconds long, but i will keep trying and i’ll have more vivid and longer LD’s :content:

P.S. i’ve read that wake induced lucid dreams are more vivid and you have higher consciousness and perfect dream recall.
is this true?

Not necessarily, you can have WILDs that are low vividness and you barely recall them just like you can have a MILD with great vividness and perfect recall.

Everyone can LD, just as others said, it’s just a matter of time how long you’ll have to wait for the success to come. Unless a person is affected by a disease, which prevents him from dreaming, he is able to LD.

I’ve been having them naturally to deal with nightmares for a long time but there are never very clear, but after finding this site and practicing for about 6 months I’m finally start to have them more frequently  I would say that anyone can do it they just have to keep trying

Like Thai Ngoc who hasn’t slept for 30 or so years.
