Is my body checking if my mind is sleeping?

Hey all,

So the last couple of nights, I had this thing I was wondering about.
I was going to bed pretty late (3, 4, 5 in the morning) and I have the bad habit to lay in my bed and do random stuff like chat on my phone or surf the web. At that point I’m pretty tired, especially my body.

Now, the last couple of times I did that, I had these weird itches on different spots on my body. Is this a test that my body does to check whether I’m asleep or not, just like the roll-over thing?

Thanks in advance!

Yea, this happens to me every time I attempt WILD. Crazy itches all the sudden appear out of nowhere. From what I’ve read they are hallucinations and the bodys way of checking to see if you are truly asleep.

It’s your brain that checks to see if your body is asleep. The brain controls the entire body afterall. And yes, sometimes the brain would send random signals to the body to see if you’re awake, if you move then it would not proceed to sleep, because it senses that you’re body is still not at rest.

Ok that sounds logical. Thanks for the info!
