Is there a way to slow down my waking process?

I did a search for “slow waking” and found no matches, so this newbie will take a chance and post.

Of late I have a pattern of experiencing intensely vivid imagery shortly before waking. Having had a precious few lucid and pre-lucid dreams, I associate such vividness with these, and am thinking that perhaps if I could somehow keep myself from waking up so quickly I might improve my chances of going lucid. Any ideas?

if you experience the images before awakening, then they are sort of dreams…

Anyways,

you can try to keep your body still once you wake up and just focus on the imagery, it should take you back there

I think you may be experiencing Hypnopompic imagery, the opposite of Hypnagogic imagery.

You can read more Here and Here

Not to helpful, but can make for an interesting read I guess :content:

relV’s suggestion should work perfect for you if you have vivid imagery :ok:

Sorry for the unclear explanation :shy:

What I meant was that the dreams themselves feature an ‘epilog’ of sharp, vivid imagery; I’m thinking that if I could sustain that dream phase long enough I might get a chance to catch on to the fact of my dreaming state.

You’ve also reminded me that I do have hallucinations of a sort after waking, random line patterns that dance around in my field of view. In any case, per your advice, maybe instead of WBTB I should experiment with going right back to sleep? [I should note here that in my twenties I frequently experienced, and hated, sleep paralysis, so I’m not sure I’d want to give WILD a try]

Thanks for the welcome! :woot:

[Overcome the physical illusion! Yessssss!!! :universe: :slide:]

Well, you could sorta WILD.

What I mean is that if you wake up and you manage to keep almost completely still and go back to sleep, you should be able to surf into a dream quite easily after some practice.
The main thing is just to decide to get lucid while in the dream.

There is no reason that won’t do.

Just do it.
