I’m not sure this is the right spot to be posting this topic, but it is possible to learn stuff while you are dreaming? Like for instance, if I wanted to learn how to play the piano, could I have a guide in my dream to teach me, and it stay with me IRL? I’ve been thinking about this a lot, and it seems as though it could work. How could would it be to learn MMA fighting styles while are you asleep, and stick with you into real life.
If you talking about like learning mathematical questions, no not really because to start off with it is hard to read in dreams if not impossible and if you have ever tried reading in dreams you will no what I mean. Now if you are talking about basic fighting skills yeah you can I have but not anything that is impossible like the matrix moves. Plus you have to be in a lucid dream long anough witch takes practice.
well, if you want to learn just that, piano.
I’d guess you’d have to start with learning the sound of every key of the piano IRL?
I think it is possible to learn most things in a dream, as long as you have watched others do it extensively or you have been taught yourself and you just have a hard time grasping it. I have read about people figuring out complicated math problems in their dreams. There was actually a couple of dreams with problem solving of that kind that are talked about in Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming. It will definitely depend on your level of Lucidity and control. I have attempted this before and it did improve my ability to perform that skill that I practiced IRL, and the LD I did it in only lasted for about a minute and was fading. I would read the book above and it will give you more detailed information on using LD’s for that. If there is something you want to learn, learn as much about it as you can IRL and watch the experts in that field perform their work. That will help the practice in the LD to be more effective.
When we do actions in our dreams, our brain sends out signals to our muscles. While our muscles don’t receive those signals (they are in SP), the brain still remembers these signals and thus enables learning in dreams. Say, you got a piece you want to learn to play on a piano. If you play this piece in your dreams, your abilities will improve. It’s not the muscle movements that make us learn, it’s the brain’s signals to these muscles.
Then I could do my piano homework in my dreams, and save time. But if you practice once or twice in a dream, is it like you practice IRL, or is it easier/harder?
I think the result should be the same, but there are a few problems. The first one is that devices (i.e. a piano) do not always work correctly. You might have all the notes messed up. Secondly, if you are playing while watching a sheet with notes, these notes may appear incorrectly in a dream. The whole sheet would be unstable and would be changing it’s contents and text. We have got the “Look for changing text” RC for a reason. Of course, if you ever get this to work (i haven’t even tried in my LD’s), post the results. It would be interesting. Theoretically it’s possible to learn in your dreams, but there are a few practical difficulties.
I’ll try to do WILD sometime and play at a piano… It’ll be hard, because I’m not that experienced, but I’ll try…
